Guest players

Four guests sit in on the PITF recordings: Kira, Ben, Ethan and Matt. None of them plays a character in any recorded session. They listen in on the call, joke with the regular cast, and now and then nudge the game from the sidelines.

Guest Sessions Role at the table
Kira 12 sessions across the first three arcs Commentator and fact-checker
Ben 6 sessions across four arcs Listener, mostly muted
Ethan 1 session A few out-of-character remarks
Matt The one-shot Commentator

Kira

Kira is the most frequent guest, heard in twelve sessions from the second episode of the campaign to the start of The Things in Appalachia: Radford Horror 02, Radford Horror 04, Radford Horror 05, Radford Horror 06, Radford Horror 08, Summer Service 01, Summer Service 03, Summer Service 04, Summer Service 05, Summer Service 06, Appalachia 01 and Appalachia 02. She has no character of her own. She supplies facts, rules questions and jokes.

Her contributions:

  • Fact-checks. When the table confuses Amanda Lucky with a singer, she sorts it out: "Amanda Palmer is the musician." In the Marblehead finale she settles an argument about Utah's state motto: "I have found the motto on utah.gov. It is 'Industry.'" (Radford Horror 06, Summer Service 06)
  • Worm biology. During the worm arc she explains why adult chicken pox is dangerous and why the cure matters more "the greater your, like, parasitic load is." Her favorite fact came up often enough for Andre to keep count. Kira: "Have I told you about the bag of worm mutation in nematodes?" Andre: "You have. I think three or four times." (Summer Service 03, Summer Service 05)
  • Rules questions. She asks whether the Biz's bonus "for concealing evidence of a crime" applies, and whether anyone has a first aid kit. (Radford Horror 04, Summer Service 06)
  • Urging the party on. During the Whateley house search: "I'm trying to convince them to eat the root." (Radford Horror 06)
  • "Roll to eat pancakes." Her suggestion at the diner. (Radford Horror 05)
  • The dread answer. When Zack asks what the new dread mechanic is, she answers for Andre: "None of your business. The answer is none of your business. Take some." (Summer Service 03)
  • Lena Scott. Of the child Lena Scott: "I want to adopt her." Of another character in the same session: "I'd pet him." (Summer Service 03)
  • "Can I still come?" Asked when Andre was about to run a scene that some of the players were meant to stay out of. (Summer Service 01)
  • The warhead. Dante writes her into the back seat with the Davy Crockett: "Kira, you cuddle with the warhead in the backseat." This is the closest any guest comes to appearing in the fiction. (Summer Service 04)
  • Worm chowder. By the finale: "I have an intense urge to buy a bucket of nightcrawlers and make worm chowder." (Summer Service 06)
  • The smell check. "Did you just canonically smell that kid?" (Appalachia 01)

Her last recorded appearance is pre-game banter at the top of Appalachia 02, with advice on naming a pet: "decide how you would feel yelling it on your porch at 3 a.m." (Appalachia 02)

Ben

Ben is heard in six sessions: Radford Horror 07, Summer Service 06, Appalachia 09, Walkers 01, Walkers 02 and Walkers 08. He is a listener more than a talker and is often muted.

  • Radford Horror 07, the church fight, is his most talkative session. He jokes along with the table, asks Rita whether Andrew is a cleric (her answer: "No. I'm an alien cultist"), and signs off with "This was really fun to watch." (Radford Horror 07)
  • In Summer Service 05 he joins the call late and is not heard. Andre greets him with "Hey, Ben, you've missed a bunch of really horrifying shit," and asks that nobody use the soundboard. (Summer Service 05)
  • In Summer Service 06 Andre tells him, "Ben, you are making horrible noises." Dante: "Well, it's hard to strangle a drifter quietly." Kira: "Mute yourself, Ben." (Summer Service 06)
  • In Appalachia 09 he asks the table one question during the last fight: "For reference, how much health do you guys have?" (Appalachia 09)
  • In Walkers 01: "I've been muted, but I laughed. It made me laugh pretty good." (Walkers 01)
  • In Walkers 02 he speaks once: "I like this man being like, 'Hey, I hear you have trauma. Let me ask you deep personal questions about it.'" (Walkers 02)
  • In Walkers 08 he is the only person besides Rita and Andre still on the call for the after-session scene that reveals what happened to the real Andrew Howard, and he asks Rita the obvious question: "So did you know what was happening this whole session?" The other three players had already left. (Walkers 08)

Zack also addresses him once in Summer Service 04 ("What was that, Ben?"), but Ben is not heard in that session. (Summer Service 04)

Ethan

Ethan is heard briefly in the pre-game chat of Radford Horrors 02, where he sums up the real-world career of the arc's new FBI director: "Giuliani, he pioneered the perp walk and basically took down the Mafia and then lost his mind in the mid-2000s." (Radford Horrors 02)

He is also the subject of a joke in Appalachia 06, a session he is not heard in. Ezra: "For Ethan's sake, you're gonna have to give us the make and model of all of these air conditioners." Dante: "It's the only way Ethan will be satisfied." (Appalachia 06)

Matt

Matt is the guest for the non-canon one-shot Philosopher's Fist 3.J/2: Unchainable. He plays no character; he comments while Rita and Dante play ("That's just the plot of Hunter x Hunter"; "This man about to lose his life"). When the table debates whether the dog on Derk's hand-drawn flag is recognizable, Matt vouches for it: "Oh, that's a corgi, I promise." (Philosopher's Fist)

What guests do not do

No guest rolls dice for a character, takes a turn in a scene or appears in the fiction under a name in any recorded session. All of the campaign's player characters belong to the four regulars: see Cast and players.
