Background¶
In the recap that opens Roulet Estate 02, Andre explains the origin of the trip: a member of the Keely Network message boards who knew Andrew wrote to say that their friend Margaret Roulet had been having "visitations" and then vanished. The letter reached Andrew on Christmas Eve, inside a foil-wrapped envelope handed over by Big Bill (see Foil-Wrapped Letter). (Roulet Estate 01, Roulet Estate 02)
What the agents learn¶
In Roulet Estate 01 the agents do not know the owners' names. From the library, Andrew deduces that they were a husband and wife and that the wife was the more devout believer. A partly coded notebook logs several months of incidents ending in the fall of 1992, and the VHS rack includes tapes labelled "September '92 visitation," "May '91 visitation" and "Lights in the sky, July '92" (see Visitation Tapes). The safe in the bedroom holds only a sheet of wedding photos, apparently from the 1950s or 60s and taken in Arizona. (Roulet Estate 01)
Death¶
In the basement, Kurt digs into the trash pit, hallucinates grasping hands, and fires into the hole. When he comes to, a withered, sleeved human hand is sticking out of the dirt, shot several times. Andrew fetches the wedding photos, and Andre rules that the ring on the hand matches the one in the photos: it is Margaret. The agents dig further and find parts of two bodies, too decayed for a cause of death, with the cloth bleached and dissolved, apparently by something caustic poured in to control the smell. See Roulet Basement. (Roulet Estate 02)
The agents later discover that someone had been living in a hidden attic above the house, probably for at least a year, and photographing the sleeping occupants (see Hidden Attic Lair and The Roulet Intruder). The owners had fitted inside locks to their bedroom doors. The episodes never establish who killed her, or whether the intruder did. (Roulet Estate 02)
Relationships¶
The agents assume that her husband, Mr. Roulet, is the second body.
Trivia¶
- Andre's recap spells her surname both "Roulette" and "Roulet"; the shorter spelling is used on this wiki.
- After reading the library in Roulet Estate 01, Andrew tells Kurt the case is "just like the letter said", a classic case of two people being abused by the Greys. See The Greys. (Roulet Estate 01)
