Roosevelt Police Department

The Roosevelt Police Department is the small-town police force of Roosevelt, Utah, which lends the team its car Betsy, forces a false confession out of Yusuf Ansari, and is later massacred and replaced by skinwalkers.

Type Organization (local police)
Aliases Roosevelt PD; Roosevelt Police
Base Roosevelt police station
Notable members Officer Hernandez; an eager young officer; Carl ("Ham")
Status Destroyed in the offscreen massacre before Walkers 08
First appearance Walkers 04

Overview

The department is small. At the scene of the wrecked rental car, five cops handle the traffic jam, some of them in different uniforms, which suggests outside officers were brought in (Walkers 04). The station's interrogation room doubles as the lunchroom (Walkers 06). Andre put Roosevelt's population at about six thousand (Walkers 04).

Members

  • Officer Hernandez. Took charge at the wreck and, after looking at Howard's FBI identification, waived the tickets and arranged the loaner squad car Betsy (Walkers 04).
  • The eager young officer. Starstruck by the team, and frightened of being sent back to "the burger hut"; he leaks the junkyard lead and later phones Andrew about the confession (Walkers 05). The episodes never say whether he is Hernandez.
  • Carl. A hungover cop who says only "Ham", microwaves Canadian bacon, and eats Lucky Charms from a paper coffee cup (Walkers 06). He is distinct from FBI agent Carl Gardner.

History

The wrecked car (Walkers 04 and 05)

Officers struggled to clear the pancaked rental from East Lagoon Street, and a tow truck had to come from Duchesne (Walkers 04). The wreck then sat in the station garage. The department said it had a manhunt under way and named a local junkyard owner with a car crusher, a magnetic crane, several priors and no alibi (Walkers 05). Kurt urged the officer to match the physical evidence before trusting any confession.

The false confession (Walkers 05 and 06)

The junkyard owner, Yusuf Ansari, confessed after the police questioned him. Yusuf told the team the police had threatened immigration trouble and said that if he confessed it would be just a fine of $10,000 with no immigration problems. He then said he had not crushed the car: the crusher does not flatten them that much, and the magnetic lifter does not move (Walkers 06). The decision on whether to press charges was deferred.

The massacre (Walkers 08)

By the time the team returned, every officer in the station had been shot dead, each missing a small body part removed after death, usually a finger, in one case an ear. The receptionist's pointer finger was gone. The armory was empty, and the basement generator had been cut and smashed. The only living person found in the cells was Yusuf, who had been shot, played dead under a pile of bodies and woken to find his little toe cut off (Walkers 08).

As the team left the station, a group of people in police uniforms approached it, and the bridge blockade was manned by about twenty to twenty-five heavily armed people, most dressed as cops (Walkers 08). See Skinwalker faction and Bridge blockade.

The station afterwards (Walkers 09)

Donald McManley, his interns and wounded Guardsmen waited at the station, where they had been helping with autopsies, while the team went to the community center; the team picked them up on the way out (Walkers 09).
