Description¶
Elizabeth is Douglas Douglas's overnight worker, a combination security guard and maintenance technician who fixes machines that have problems, does some cleaning for the next day, and keeps break-ins out. She had worked at the Emporium for about six months, since it opened (Radford Horrors 03). She never appears alive on screen, and her appearance and manner are not described.
History¶
The cold open¶
The third episode of The Radford Horrors opened with a long pan down a dark aisle of chiming pinball machines: muffled thrashing and cursing, a thump and the crack of a Taser, a woman's limp, twitching arm flopping into view, and a man in a black balaclava stepping out to help carry her away. Then it cut to credits (Radford Horrors 03).
The investigation¶
Douglas told the team she was gone when he arrived to open. A letter on her door claimed she was in inpatient psychiatric treatment in Los Angeles. The Flash Gordon machine was opened up mid-repair, there was a bloodstain in the parking lot, and the hand towels in the staff bathroom were missing. Kurt's luminol search, helped by the arcade's black lights, found a broken Taser tine with blood in the neon carpet, a blood smear and a single hair on the corner of a machine, and a missing first-aid kit. There were no fingerprints, and a faint smell of bleach suggested gloved people had cleaned up and missed some spots. At the back of the lot, a section of fence had been cut, a vehicle driven through, and the fence reattached. The front-porch camera's tape had been swapped for a partly recorded-over one (Radford Horrors 03).
Kurt recognized the pattern of the Los Angeles letter from other missing Radford residents who were officially said to be in drug or psychiatric facilities there; see LA treatment cover story.
In Radford Horrors 04, security footage from the diner across the street showed a gray van pulling up in the early hours (the diner closed at 1 a.m.; the footage showed it at about four or five). Five men got out, one with a long brown ponytail and others with military haircuts, and several had their faces covered. Something that was not human moved in the Emporium window, and after two or three minutes three of the men carried out two bags (Radford Horrors 04). Dante theorized that the crew was sent to clean up an alien presence in the building, possibly a juvenile moth or a thrall like the astronaut kid, and that Elizabeth was caught in the crossfire. Zack wondered if a remote recording device had been hidden in the machine. See Emporium intruder. Her fate is never resolved.
Trivia¶
- Andre first called her "Lizbeth Geor-", then corrected himself in Radford Horrors 03; in Radford Horrors 04 he calls her "Lisbeth George".
