Overview¶
The group is known only from a single night. They use a bomb car and several carloads of gunmen to ambush the presidential convoy. The Biz recognizes Chechen from his intelligence work and hears both Chechen and Russian voices, but their allegiance is never resolved (Radford Horrors 03).
The ambush¶
The Russian government's guards take the Biz in the rear car of a convoy to look at an "unusual aircraft crash" in Oryol Oblast at the request of the president. In the dark beyond Moscow, an old 1960s Russian-made car rams the president's limousine and explodes, and the guards in the Biz's car bail out. A Read a Bad Situation roll tells the Biz that this is an elaborate ambush with several cars of gunmen, speaking Chechen and Russian, and that the armored limo is damaged but not everyone in it is dead (Radford Horrors 03).
The Biz crawls to the limo, gets the unconscious president out, and flees in the guards' car under heavy fire. He kills the lights and veers into a wheat field, spending Luck to lose the pursuers (Radford Horrors 03).
The gunman in the wheat¶
In the rain, one attacker follows the car's trail through the wheat with an AK. His tactical gear is mismatched and partly out of date, which looks more paramilitary than military, and the Biz is "maybe 90 percent sure" he is not with the Russians. The gunman kicks the dead guard the Biz had posed outside the car and then peers into the back seat. The Biz circles behind him with a knife in his teeth and, spending Luck, inflicts terrible harm: the blade severs an artery in the neck and the tendons of the gun arm. In the struggle the man jams a finger into the Biz's eye, and the Biz takes one harm and can no longer see out of it. The Biz wrestles the gun away, and the gunman collapses from blood loss and a blow to the head (Radford Horrors 03).
A Russian helicopter then lands, picks up the Biz and the concussed president, and flies them away. The Biz has three Luck left before he is Doomed (Radford Horrors 03).
Unresolved¶
The episodes do not say who sent the ambushers, or whether the attack was tied to the crashed craft the president wanted examined.
