Description

The table uses several names for the object, depending on who is speaking: "pendant" and "force field" in Walkers 04 and 05, "protective thing" and "little medallion" in Walkers 07, and "religious pendant" in Walkers 09. All of them refer to the same small metal necklace, which Andrew never takes off ("I never take that off", Rita, Walkers 05).

In Walkers 09, searching for it, Rita says she wants "the pendant that my mom and the guy gave me". The episodes never say who "the guy" is. Andrew's mother belongs to his church, the Aetherius Society, but the pendant is never tied to it explicitly.

Properties

  • Kinetic protection. In Walkers 04 Andre rules that the pendant "technically" protects Andrew from kinetic damage, and describes him gently levitating a tenth of a millimeter above the Jeep seat, floating a little over every bump (Walkers 04).
  • Absorbs falls. In Walkers 05 a hatch he is prying open bends sharply upward and he hits the pavement, but Andre says he takes no harm "because you're force field". Later in the episode he falls from the ceiling onto his shoulder with the same result, and wakes furious that he "almost got abducted" (Walkers 05).
  • Repels the goose. When Nancy the goose drops onto Andrew's head from above a doorway, Andre rules that his force field repulses her first strike. She then mauls him anyway once he is on his back, and Kurt pries her off with the stilts (Walkers 04).
  • Negates harm. In Roulet Estate 01 Rita asks whether the pendant "did pendant things" when Andrew was shot in the face, and Andre confirms it did. She explains that Andrew can negate 2 harm without the pendant and 3 with it: "I have two different things that let me negate one harm" (Roulet Estate 01).

The source of the effect is never explained.

History

The Walkers in Skin

The pendant first shows its effect in Walkers 04, where it keeps Nancy from landing her first attack (Walkers 04). In Walkers 05 it saves Andrew from two falls (Walkers 05). In Walkers 07 he dresses in his FBI outfit and takes his sidearm, "your little medallion" and his other gear before driving to Ballard High School (Walkers 07). In the gym he is replaced by a duplicate (see Andrew Howard (duplicate)).

In Walkers 09 the real Andrew wants his things back; Andre notes that the other Andrew had neither the bag nor the pendant. At the pile of stolen possessions near the portal, Rita rolls Sharp and Andrew finds a ruined suit, a fanny pack and a little necklace inside a Ziploc bag labeled "Hazardous!!!" with several exclamation points. Rita says she mostly wants the "religious pendant" back because it was "harder to replace" (Walkers 09). See also Andrew's satchel.

The Roulet Estate

Andrew wears it through the Roulet case, and it is part of the table's accounting of how he survives being shot (Roulet Estate 01). See Andrew's Condition.
