Description¶
Willow is described through others. Her sister Primenthol Greengrass says she was thin from malnutrition, had no money, no enemies, no suitors and no friends outside the Covenant, and had little "agency" ("she had that forehead") (Appalachia 02). The cold open of the arc shows a young woman in an ankle-length dress hauling a sack of peaches through the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest; something hairy and inhuman scuttles between the trees and a growl drags her off-screen. The scene does not name her, but the peaches match the sack later found in the woods near Auraria (Appalachia 01).
Background¶
Prim says their mother joined the Covenant when the girls were small and both were renamed at about age three. Prim left, finished school and returned about a month before the disappearance to coax Willow out. Their mother has since died (Appalachia 02).
History¶
The disappearance¶
The FBI dossier said an adult woman had disappeared "yesterday" when it was handed over on Monday, October 4. Andrew noticed that she vanished in Auraria, which was not on their map and was treated in the file as part of Dahlonega. Sheriff Carter Burke thought she had simply left the cult. The only evidence is a bag of peaches found in the middle of the woods, now in the sheriff's evidence locker (Appalachia 01).
What the Covenant said¶
On the trail near Auraria the team met the bootlegger Frotter Comstock, who knew only that she had gone missing (Appalachia 02). At the Covenant itself, the young woman Clover told Kurt that Willow had a persistent yeast infection, common in the camp, and that Elijah Ray had sent her to scout peach orchards and she never returned. Willow's friend River said she was upset because her sister kept pressing her to leave, that the two had a big fight a couple of days before she vanished, and that Elijah Ray discouraged contact with family. River did not think Prim was a murderer. She said Willow had been scouting a new orchard when she disappeared (Appalachia 04). Monica Cartwright also asked the team whether they had found "that cult lady" (Appalachia 04).
What remains unknown¶
Willow's fate is never resolved in the recorded sessions. She is not mentioned in Appalachia 09 or Walkers 01, and the arc's finale was never recorded. See Unresolved mysteries.
