Description¶
The VSS is a Soviet-era rifle, fairly well used but well taken care of, loaded with normal nine-millimeter rounds. It has a serial number, which Kurt makes a note of. It is a specialized weapon; as Andre puts it, "the VSS is nobody's everyday carry" (Roulet Estate 01, Roulet Estate 02).
History¶
Roulet Estate 01. While Andrew is outside studying the map in the car, an odd whizzing noise passes his head and a car window explodes; the monk tackles him and drags him behind the car. Huell and Andrew chase a naked, unnaturally thin figure through the woods. It picks up a sniper rifle and shoots Huell in the shin (2 harm), then squares up and shoots Andrew in the face. Andrew negates the harm, and from the figure's body language it is startled. It flees to a river, and Andrew finds the rifle dropped near the bank and takes it. Back at the house Kurt dusts the rifle and takes samples of the prints, wanting the evidence collected before the team has to fire the rifle themselves (Roulet Estate 01).
Andrew suspects the people who did the cleanup in Utah are tying up loose ends. Kurt answers that one shooter is a half-assed effort rather than a fire team, and wonders whether the attack was meant to look like a Soviet assassination (Roulet Estate 01).
Roulet Estate 02. The agents wrap the rifle in a garbage bag to protect the prints, having no equipment to run them. When they find a Kalashnikov and WWII Russian pistols in the attic lair, Andre says the gentleman of the house seems to have been a firearms collector. The players take it that the VSS was probably stolen from such a collection, which makes a KGB plot less likely (Roulet Estate 02). The serial number and fingerprints are never traced on screen.
