Minor organizations: The Walkers in Skin¶
This page lists the minor businesses, institutions and communities that appear in The Walkers in Skin; larger groups include Bigelow's research operation and the skinwalker faction.
Ballard Sheriff's Office¶
The law enforcement of Ballard, Utah, which amounts to one man, Sheriff McDermish, working from a double-wide trailer that is also his home. In Walkers 03 he serves sweet tea at a card table with a Monopoly game underway. In Walkers 06 he reports that over half the high school is absent, that houses have been empty for days and that the diner is nearly empty, and he then arms Kurt and flees the state with his son. By Walkers 07 and Walkers 08 the department is empty, and the party only mentions that the sheriff left town. See the sheriff's double-wide and disappearances in Ballard. (Walkers 03, Walkers 06, Walkers 08)
Budget Suites of America¶
A hotel chain owned by Bigelow and recommended by Gardner, who promises kitchens and no bed bugs. Kurt asks whether dentists are staying there, a nod to the table's running gag about dentists' conferences bumping the team from hotels. (Walkers 02)
Dollar Tree¶
A rival discount store in Roosevelt, loathed by the cashier at Stewart's, who thanks the party for not patronizing the "interloper" and complains that "they don't pay copyright on the songs." See Stewart's. (Walkers 05)
Hertz Rent-A-Car¶
The rental company that supplied the party's Plymouth Voyager. After the van vanishes and reappears, a Hertz clerk pages Andrew to report it blocking East Lagoon Street in Roosevelt. See the Plymouth Voyager and the vanishing car. (Walkers 04)
Mormon community of Ballard¶
The religious majority in Ballard and the surrounding area, and the group the party first suspects. The community's church holds the grave of Shelly Wilmarth, and in Walkers 01 Alberta asks the FBI to force it to exhume her mother. Sheriff McDermish complains about "nosy Mormons," the bartender suspects Andrew of being a "Mormon fed," and in Walkers 06 the sheriff notes that most of the missing townspeople are Mormon. After the gym fight, the duplicate of Andrew guesses "Mormons or a religious cult thing," and the players joke about Mormons training coyotes. See the exhumation. (Walkers 01, Walkers 03, Walkers 06, Walkers 07)
Roosevelt high school drama department¶
The source of the Cats fundraiser costumes that the party finds in the trunk of the loaner squad car Betsy. Walt identifies them as Cats costumes and credits the Roosevelt drama teacher, described as a "big musical theater lady." See Cats costumes. (Walkers 04)
