Description

He is a very old man, sunken into himself with age, with what Andre calls the "Crypt Keeper haircut," long only around the outside of his head. Andre says he looks as if the team has startled him back to life. He is cheerful and formal (Radford Horror 08).

History

The last third of Radford Horror 08 is the opening of the Marblehead case. When the team arrives at the inn, he offers four single rooms and a hot fish breakfast at 6 a.m. sharp, and laundry service. He says business has been quiet "except for those fellas from the government" about a week earlier, meaning the missing EPA/USGS survey team. He agrees to send up what the survey team left behind, on condition that the new guests pay the cleaning fee for the rooms (Radford Horror 08).

He offers the team a choice of Bibles: King James, Gideon's, or "the local flavor, which I highly recommend, the Sons of Adam Bible." They take the local one, a thick, clearly self-published volume with an illustration of Jesus parting the water inside the front cover, and he invites them to attend services. About fifteen minutes later he hauls up a large cardboard box of the survey team's belongings, which the team searches in Andrew Howard's room: suitcases, clothes, IDs, technical manuals, sampling equipment and several wallets (Radford Horror 08); see Survey team's field notes and Sons of Adam Bible.

Trivia

  • In Summer Service 01, Andre describes the man at the same front desk as having "the Crypt Keeper haircut" and shows that his name tag reads "Jester." The episodes strongly imply that the innkeeper of Radford Horror 08 and Jester are the same man, but never state it outright, and the innkeeper is not seen again as such.
  • His promotion of the Sons of Adam Bible and its services is the only sign of his affiliation with the church; the episodes never state it.
