Description¶
The team set out on the trail from Auraria. The Circle Chasers had marked on a map where they thought Bigfoot was based, and the team drew a circle around that area. Within it lie a footprint spot, a hill with a crumbled side where the Chasers filmed, and a tree about 100 feet from the rabbit snatch (Appalachia 02).
Notable places within¶
- Comstock meeting point. About ten minutes in, the team saw a light and met Frotter Comstock, a bearded man in overalls hauling a cart of bottles and chemistry equipment, who described himself as from a long line of Comstock bootleggers and said he had been helping the Auraria church with a methanol problem in their ritual beverage. His own land is described at Comstock's Property.
- Footprint spot. The Biz rolled an 8 on Investigate a Mystery, got a boost from Kurt's Help Out, and asked what was being concealed. The team found two clean, giant footprints, the edge of a sneaker print beside them and a cigarette butt. Kurt photographed everything and said he leaned more toward a fake Bigfoot print than a real one.
- Rabbit snatch hillside. The Circle Chasers showed a three-second clip on a '90s VHS camcorder of a rabbit frozen in the trail, eyes glowing in the lights, before a gray, man-sized blur grabbed it.
- The blood tree. After about half an hour of searching, blood dripped on Andrew from a tree about 100 feet from the snatch. Huell climbed (Andrew gave him a boost with Help Out, exposing himself to danger), slipped, caught himself under both arms and took 1 harm, and retrieved a white rabbit's pelt with its insides gone, ripped apart rather than cut or chewed (Appalachia 02). See White Rabbit Pelt.
History of events there¶
The team walked the trail at night, having left their night vision in the decontaminated car; Kurt passed a Preparedness roll to have luminol and a UV light. Huell and the Biz flanked in the dark while Kurt and Andrew approached Comstock. An unearthly howl later scattered birds before the Circle Chasers arrived, and Harvey the Great Dane leapt on Andrew (Appalachia 02).
The Chasers offered theories: Eddie Jones argued that Bigfoot might be feral humans, comparing them to feral hogs, while Andrew argued for a werewolf, because in the footage the creature crawled rather than walking upright. Kurt made a mental note of everyone's footwear (hiking boots; Delilah in flats) to check against the sneaker print, and wondered whether the creature had returned to hang its prey in the tree. Andre's answer to the Biz's question "Where did it go?" was that the creature is very comfortable moving vertically.
The team marked the ridge where a witness had seen the creature, the spot on the road and the rabbit site on the map to get a range. Andre said the line pointed toward town (Appalachia 02). The faked prints later fed the Bigfoot hoax; in Appalachia 06 the team found a snapped-off plaster-of-Paris toe and matching fake prints on Comstock's land.
Inhabitants¶
None. The bootlegger Comstock lives on a nearby ridge homestead.
