Drebin

Drebin is a Salt Lake City equipment dealer with mutton-chop sideburns and a pet iguana who rents the task force a ground-penetrating radar and is the first to spot the cavern beneath Sherman Ranch.

Description

In Walkers 05 Drebin is a patient man with big mutton chops who explains the radar's use at length. His iguana Herbert, with "mad lizard eyes," travels in his truck. In Walkers 04 the players had already given the unnamed dealer an odd smell (mothballs with nicotine), mutton chops, an iguana, model trains and ham radio (Walkers 04).

History

Walkers 04: sourcing the radar

As a Plan B for the exhumation, Kurt tries to source ground-penetrating radar. The Biz uses the Fixer move (a Charm roll, result 12, with Kurt assisting) and reaches a Salt Lake City dealer who is a friend of his ex-wife's brother. The dealer sells equipment for finding wrecked cars in lakes, and tells an anecdote that every small-town lake is full of corpses. He rents the radar for $800 and promises to deliver and demonstrate it the next day, roughly a two-hour drive away (Walkers 04). See Ground-penetrating radar.

Walkers 05: the demonstration

Drebin delivers the unit, shaped like a push lawnmower, and demonstrates it on the ranch's septic tank, which shows a void about 10 feet down; an empty coffin shows a void, a full one does not. He then spots a big signal 70 feet down, "like a cave." Kurt's Sharp roll (double 5 plus 3, 13, treated as 12) reveals that the cave extends under the whole property with no shallower gradient. Drebin shows off Herbert and drives away, to return in 24 hours to collect the radar (Walkers 05). See The cavern and Sherman Ranch.

The dealer who arrives in Walkers 05 introduces himself as the man who rented them the radar, so he is the same person the Biz phoned in Walkers 04.
