Description

The satchel is a 20-inch leather bag (Appalachia 09). In Radford Horrors 01, Rita corrects Andre's repeated "fanny pack" with "it's a leather satchel", and the table runs through "man purse", "fanny purse" and Dante's "nutbag" before Rita settles on "technically the bag of many wonders" (Radford Horrors 01). Andre himself still calls it a fanny pack in Appalachia 09 and Walkers 07. The Walkers in Skin appearances are also covered on What I Need When I Need It bag.

Properties

The bag is the expression of Andrew's playbook ability, "What I Need When I Need It". As Rita explains it in Walkers 07, Andrew can retrieve any small, one-handed object that he owns or could feasibly own from a magical space that nobody else can reach, with no roll, as long as he reaches into the bag and believes he has the item there; Andre allows it (Walkers 07). In Appalachia 07 Rita adds that Howard himself does not know the bag is magic. He only knows that he leaves things in it and forgets them, which prompts a table joke that "Howard basically has magical dementia" (Appalachia 07).

History

The Radford Horror

In Radford Horror 07, before the trip to the church, Rita notes that Andrew takes his satchel of the things he normally wanders around with, and "also the satchel is the thing he can pull anything he owns out of". He packs some of the team's cash in it, and offers it as extra room for the team's supplies. In the church fight he digs through it for a hammer and swings it at the creature (Radford Horror 07).

The Things in Appalachia

In Appalachia 07 Andrew finds a quarter for a payphone by rooting through the satchel instead of his pockets (Appalachia 07). In Appalachia 09, in the Dahlonega mines, the team finds bear suits, shotguns, pepper spray, air horns and goalie masks in a room of the mines; Andrew packs as much of it as will fit in his bag, and later fits about six gold bars in it (Appalachia 09).

The Walkers in Skin

In Walkers 01 Andrew digs through his satchel in the Oval Office waiting room to give his hands something to do and finds a handful of Yeti fur he forgot to turn in; Dante notes that it should not have made it past White House security, but "it's a magic bag" (Walkers 01). In Walkers 07 Andrew packs his camera, pepper spray, pistol and "little satchel of odds and ends" for a date. In the Ballard High School gym he pulls a live grenade from it, believing it came from Kurt or the Biz (Walkers 07). Later in the same episode, when Dante asks about claymores, Andre says the only reason Andrew had one was his "bullshit hammerspace pocket" (Walkers 07). See Claymore mine.

The Radford Horrors

In Radford Horrors 04, camping in the woods, Rita wonders how long it will take Daniel Webster to notice that something is wrong with the bag. Andre has Ezra roll Sharp, and on a 12 Webster pieces together that a winter hat, fire-starting gear, a flashlight, blood bags, a camera, evidence bags, a walkie-talkie and a blank VHS tape have all come out of a bag that cannot hold them. He also connects this to Andrew's casual superhuman strength and to the fact that he keeps drinking blood. Webster decides not to confront him (Radford Horrors 04).
