Description¶
A harried, middle-aged woman who answers the video phone in the middle of organizing the event for the president. She knows Derk as "that poor boy with the horse feed," and her first guess when Mirabeth calls is "Oh god, are you in jail?" (Philosopher's Fist)
History¶
After the tournament briefing, Mirabeth learns that the national-holiday logo event for disadvantaged children (The Flag Contest) is being run partly by an old bridge buddy on the committee. Mirabeth calls her from a street-corner video phone outside Miguel's stand, while Derk's noisy lunch goes on behind her ("it's like Animal Planet!"). (Philosopher's Fist)
The friend says the age limit is fifteen, and Mirabeth claims Derk is fourteen. Mirabeth's Pierce the Mask roll is a 3, so the friend offers only a place on the wait list and, when Mirabeth asks about friends for Derk, the address of a social in the Capital a couple of hours away. Late that night she phones to say a spot has opened. (Philosopher's Fist)
