Description¶
Phoebe is a "horse girl": her room is full of horse things and has none of the UFO material the team had half expected. She is unconscious whenever the team sees her and never speaks on screen (Radford Horror 05, Radford Horror 07).
History¶
The Radford Horror¶
Radford Horror 03. She is named, along with Laura Nichols, as a friend of Amanda Lucky and a lead to interview. While searching the Augustine barn, Kurt finds a pink butterfly hair tie in the couch cushions (Radford Horror 03).
Radford Horror 04. Early in the morning Molly Underhill pages the team: Phoebe is missing from her bed, and has been gone perhaps an hour. An elderly neighbor heard a scream at the end of the block and saw a young woman run into the woods, wearing only a long T-shirt, her feet already cut by brambles. The neighbor says the scream woke her and that Phoebe said nothing and ignored calls to come back. Kurt follows her blood trail to a spot about twenty feet from the edge of the river, where it stops (Radford Horror 04). See The Radford Moth.
Radford Horror 05. Kurt searches her room: one bedroom slipper by the window, the other across the room at an odd angle, as if she walked to the window and ran off so fast she left them behind. From this the team concludes she saw something from the window and fled. Her diary shows Amanda was seeing someone besides Dean Lawson and that Phoebe disliked Dean. Her parents say she fought with Laura Nichols, that she and Amanda fought over Dean, and that one of the Whateley twins had a crush on her. Her father hands over a Polaroid of the night dress she wore for the APB (Radford Horror 05).
Radford Horror 06. She is still missing. Her father is found torturing Dr. Lori, whom he believes kidnapped her (Radford Horror 06). See Dr. Lori.
Radford Horror 07. In the old church the team sees a woman crucified to the wall above the pulpit, and Kurt recognizes her as Phoebe. With his multi-tool he works the nails out (a 10 on Act Under Pressure) and gets her down, unconscious, then carries her out of the burning church during the fight with the moth (an 11). He radios Molly: "We got the Phoebe Augustine girl and the Whateley boy" (Radford Horror 07). See Crucifixion MO.
Radford Horror 08. In his journal, Wilbur Whateley records that Amanda and Phoebe visited, that he does not think Amanda knows about his secret "but I feel like Phoebe might" (Radford Horror 08).
The Radford Horrors¶
In 1993 Sheriff Underhill tells Daniel Webster and the team that Phoebe is missing again: after she vanished, the sheriff's office was told she had gone to a rehab in California "like Narconon," but no one could reach her, no one in her family knew of any drug problem, and scary lawyers threatened anyone who asked (Radford Horrors 02). See LA treatment cover story.
