SHA Tracking Device

The SHA Tracking Device is a blinking red electronic tag on a ragged leather band, etched "Inventory Control, SHA Tracking, SS994-0851". A blinking red light is first glimpsed in the hidden tunnel, and the Circle Chasers later recover the tag from bear vomit.

Description

An electronic device with extra circuitry attached to a ragged leather band. It is still blinking red when the team examines it, and is etched "Inventory Control, SHA Tracking, SS994-0851". (Appalachia 07)

Properties

  • The device is still blinking, so the players presume it is active. Dante and Ezra both dislike the word "inventory", since it implies that Spud Hut tags living creatures as stock. (Appalachia 07)
  • At the wrecked truck, the logo reads "S-H-A", Spud Hut America, and Zack asks whether it is "like in that tracking number we found earlier". Andre answers, "Maybe." (Appalachia 07)
  • The ape-men on the later mining shift wear tracking bands on their arms, with blinking red lights. (Appalachia 09)

History

The red light in the tunnel

In Appalachia 03, the team follows a hidden modern tunnel and sees a small red light blink in the darkness far down the passage. Kurt later describes the creature that attacked them as having a blinking red light, and wonders if it is a bioweapon. (Appalachia 03)

In Appalachia 04, Kurt argues that the glowing red light attached to the creature suggests that "there are people involved", since it could be a recording device or a tracking device. (Appalachia 04)

Bear vomit

In Appalachia 07, the Circle Chasers tell the team that while checking a recent Bigfoot sighting they found bear vomit full of blood and a blinking light, and were then chased by a bear "with, like, half a face"; see Half-faced Bear. In their RV, they produce the light in a Ziploc bag. Ezra's Dick Baxter examines it with an Investigate a Mystery roll of 9, and learns that it is electronic equipment attached to a leather band bearing the etched inscription. (Appalachia 07)

The team stores the device in an emptied corn nuts cup as a makeshift Faraday cage, after the players float a soda can, tinfoil and one of the coolers used for body parts. They then take it to McManley. (Appalachia 07)

Unresolved

The episodes do not report what McManley found out about the device.
