Description

The campground is near the river, with a smaller, older traditional campground attached. It is marked "Campsite A" on the tourist map. The FBI team's sites have big lockable stand-up tents, a fire pit, a composting toilet and a shower bag (Radford Horrors 02).

Notable places within

The missing agents' camp. Five agents' worth of gear stands in two tents plus an admin tent. Their car is still in the lot with two shotguns locked in its trunk (Radford Horrors 02).

History of events there

The first visit (Radford Horrors 02)

The team learns the missing agents' campsite location from the sheriff's office. Kurt checks the map and finds it lies only a couple of miles from where the team faced the moth. Daniel Webster leads the visit. A teenager at the gate lets them in after Webster shows his badge, noting that the earlier "cops" are behind on berth fees. On the way in the team passes a few family campsites and two "extremely hairy men wearing fishing vests" who wave as the car goes by (Radford Horrors 02).

The team cuts open the locked tents. Huell (Investigate a Mystery, 11) finds no signs of haste or foul play, a bag of moldy laundry, and a map of the woods with irregular polygons and an illegible scribble beside one boundary, which he takes (see Missing agents' map). Webster photographs and videotapes the camp; Kurt's luminol turns up only a nosebleed on a pillow. There are no notebooks. A radioed report from a week earlier said the agents were "chasing up some weird stuff" (Radford Horrors 02). The map leads the team to the Safe Environment Fund fenced site.

The second visit (Radford Horrors 04)

Having woken Wilbur Whateley in Roanoke (see Roanoke mental hospital), the team returns to Radford with an hour before stores close. They decide not to disturb the missing team's camp, since it is unprocessed evidence, and buy gear: two large three-person tents, a camp stove, Spam, eggs, hot dogs, coffee, water, s'mores supplies, Pabst, sleeping bags and foam rolls. The campground is already closed for the night but lets the FBI in again, and the team pitches beside the missing agents' tents. Kurt's tent goes up well; Huell's stands tilted about 20 degrees with two spare rods (Radford Horrors 04).

At twilight they cook hot dogs and s'mores. Kurt tells Webster the "spaceman" story from the first case, and Webster, with a Sharp 12, pieces together that Andrew's bag holds more than it could, that he shows casual superhuman strength, and that he keeps drinking blood; he chooses not to confront him. Andre ends the night with Kurt sleeping tied in a tree in a poncho and Andrew lifting him up the tree one-handed as Webster watches (Radford Horrors 04).

Inhabitants

The missing FBI agents (absent), an unnamed teenage gate attendant, and the PITF during their camp-out.
