Description

A giant, bald, dark-skinned man about 6'7" to 6'8" and roughly 300 lbs, naked, carrying an over-under shotgun, who at first crawls on all fours. His strength is big-man strength rather than supernatural. He feels no pain, even with his feet shot up (Walkers 07).

History

About 11 p.m. the Biz wakes on edge, senses movement outside and hears scratching at the front door; something skitters around the house. Hinges squeak in the back mud room, and the laundry-room door opens by millimeters as a wide, bald head pokes out near the floor. Huell orders "Hands up, buddy," and the man lunges, throwing Huell into the Biz (Walkers 07). See Guest double-wide.

In the fight the real Andrew Howard wakes and tackles the man from behind as one shotgun barrel fires into the ceiling, then is slammed through the drywall. Kurt forces the second barrel into the wall and is choked. The Biz loops his belt around the man's neck and has a chunk of his cheek bitten out; the piece is too small to sew back. Kurt's P90 and Huell's pistol shoot the man's feet with no visible reaction. Andrew declines a skull shot (risking the Biz) and uses Cast Out Evil (12) with his hands on the man's face: a black-light glow passes through him and bluish-white light streams from his eyes and mouth, and the man goes limp. Andrew does not understand what he did (Walkers 07).

Afterward the man is catatonic: pulse and breath but no muscle tension and fixed pupils. The team handcuffs him; Huell's first aid (15) stabilizes him. A key is in the back door: the man let himself in. Andrew keeps it. Zack declares the man's name to be Carter, and the others go along with it, though nothing in the scene supports it (Walkers 07).

About 11:15 p.m. Walt "Coyote" Murphy arrives by Jeep, sees the man and asks "Is that... you?", implying he recognizes him. Warned about Ballard, where half the high school is missing, Walt drives the body to the small emergency room in Roosevelt, avoiding Ballard. He returns about 5 a.m., exhausted: the man's breathing weakened on the drive, he did CPR while driving, and the man died on the heart-lung machine (Walkers 07). See Roosevelt, Utah.

The same night, Bigelow reports all recordings and three employees stolen; Bigelow says "somebody had keys to the whole fucking place," and the intruder had used a key at the double-wide too (Walkers 07). See Bigelow's recordings.

What remains unknown

  • What left the man. After the fight Rita and Dante remark that "there was a thing in him" and that "something left"; the characters themselves know only that the man collapsed, unconscious, and died hours later.
  • Whether he was a Skinwalker, a controlled victim, or the "Carter" Zack named him.
  • Why Walt seemed to recognize him, and how he obtained a key.
