Description

The bar sits across the street from the closed courthouse, a building that was clearly once a church. It is nervously quiet, with very quiet jazz playing, a dartboard, a slightly broken pool table and a cassette jukebox that Maggie tries to fix. The bar has the energy of "please don't give the government an excuse to shut us down": the nosy Mormon majority of Ballard barely tolerates it, and Maggie is fiercely protective of its license (Walkers 03).

History of events there

Sheriff McDermish took the team there for a beer after they told him they wanted an exhumation done. The party spent about two hours in the bar (Walkers 03).

  • Howard and the shot. Maggie suspected Andrew Howard of being "another Mormon fed", demanded ID and made him drink a free vodka-Coke shot, then softened and gave him a root beer float. She later put half-gallon milkshakes on the house, and the Biz teased Andrew as "Half-Gallon Howard".
  • Darts. Huell rolled a 7 and spent a Luck point to beat the Biz, who handed over $20.
  • Recognition. Maggie recognized the Biz as the man who "spied on Bill Clinton" and Huell as the man on the couch who "looked like a hostage", though an armed one.
  • Gossip. She told the team that Deborah Wells was building the community center half a county from the community, that Pueblo ruins were bulldozed for it, and that she once saw what she thought was ball lightning on the ranch's back road. Ballard had about thirty blackouts a year and nothing in town worked.
  • The water. A drunk Huell told her the town water had semen in it. The party half-confirmed it, and she reasoned it must be bulk-bought animal semen with a paper trail. See Ballard water contamination.
  • The sheriff. He swapped Vietnam stories with Kurt and described in detail the lasting effects of being shot in the rear, until Maggie said she would need a rule on the wall about it, before leaving to be with his son and a game of Monopoly.
