Edward Nick¶
Edward Nick is a five- or six-year-old boy from the Dahlonega Trailer Park who was playing with Gene Cartwright when Gene vanished, and who told the sheriff he had seen Bigfoot.

Description¶
Edward has big dark eyes and a bowl haircut. When the team visits he is transfixed by Looney Tunes (the opera cartoon in which Bugs Bunny plays Brunhilde) and answers without turning from the television. He is a fan of the Hardy Boys and owns a Bigfoot book for teenagers that his father's eccentric sister gave him; it gave him nightmares for a while (Appalachia 02).
History¶
Appalachia 01¶
Sheriff Burke gives the team the case-file names: missing woman Willow Greengrass, her sister Primenthol Greengrass, missing boy Gene Cartwright (7), and the witness Edward Nick (5), who said he saw Bigfoot (Appalachia 01).
Appalachia 02¶
The team visits the Nicks' trailer on Wednesday morning. The mother lets them in after Kurt says they are "the Federales". Andrew crouches to talk to Edward and receives a Transformers toy and a juice box. Edward hands over a scribbled drawing of a crouched hairy figure, says "He was fast" and pantomimes scrabbling on all fours. He says the sighting was "yesterday"; his mother corrects him that it was three days earlier (Appalachia 02).
His mother thinks the Bigfoot book is where the idea came from. She doubts a bear took Gene, since there would have been a mess, and says the people at Auraria "always gave me the heebie-jeebies". She directs the team to the bent tree at the wood line, where Gene was playing when the screaming started. In the field Huell climbs the tree and retrieves a child's shoe with a tuft of pale hair caught in the laces. Back at the trailer, the mother relays what she got out of Ed: something appeared out of nowhere, grabbed Gene and ran into the woods (Appalachia 02).
Edward's father, Edward Nick Sr., works at the Spud Hut distribution center and arrives at dinner in gray coveralls to report that his co-worker Aaron has gone missing (Appalachia 02).
Appalachia 04¶
Gene's mother, Monica Cartwright, tells the team that Gene was playing in the woods with "the Nick boy," who started screaming his head off (Appalachia 04).
