Half-faced Bear

The Half-faced Bear is a bear "with, like, half a face" that chased the Circle Chasers from the spot where they found a pool of bloody vomit holding a blinking tracking device; Kurt insists it is not a bear at all.

Type Unidentified creature
Aliases "Squatch"
Status Unknown
First appearance Appalachia 07

Description

The only account comes from the teenage Chasers, who describe being chased by a bear "with, like, half a face" and mark the location on a map in their RV. Vanessa blurts the words "Bear vomit" when the team meets them at the Spud Hut, and the group explains that the vomit was full of blood and held a blinking light, which they took with them. The Chasers had gone to check the most recent sighting, a "squatch" reportedly lying on the ground in some trees, and found the vomit while exploring the area (Appalachia 07).

History

In the Chasers' blacklit RV the teens produced a Ziploc bag holding a blinking red light and pointed out the sighting location. Kurt told them "Not a bear" and warned them to stay away. Huell advised the teens on guns, suggesting 7.62 and slugs and telling them not to shoot what they cannot kill. The device turned out to be etched "Inventory Control, SHA Tracking, SS994-0851" (see SHA Tracking Device), which the team connected to the logo on the wrecked Spud Hut truck (Appalachia 07).

What remains unknown

  • What the creature is. The etching marks the device as Spud Hut property, but the episodes never say how it came to be in the vomit, or whether the creature is one of the ape-men.
  • Whether it has any relation to the "bear" that Frotter Comstock blamed for a gore streak on his land in Appalachia 06.
