Minor locations: The Summer Service¶
These are the smaller places visited or mentioned during the Marblehead case. The larger sites have their own pages, including Marblehead, the lighthouse and Marblehead town hall.
The cemetery¶
The town's only graveyard, kept by O'Donnell. Briggs calls it "a nice graveyard" and, asked whether it belongs to the church, says he does not think so. The team never visits. (Summer Service 01)
The fort¶
Also called the old fort. A military fort on the coastline that the Ram and Arms Inn looks out on, as Andre describes when the team arrives at the end of Radford Horror 08. Briggs tells tourists the fort is "pretty cool," and Irene Scott's daughter wandered away from a school field trip there before she was found unconscious on the beach. See Ram and Arms Inn. (Radford Horror 08; Summer Service 01)
Gramoire Residence¶
Ma Gramoire's slightly broken-down house on the main island, with "Gramoire Residence" over the door. Kurt, Huell and the Biz visit in Summer Service 03, where she receives them with a cane, a sharp tongue, a grilled cheese sandwich and absinthe over ice. Kurt uses her phone to call Big Bill. See Ma Gramoire. (Summer Service 03)
Harvard's Bait Shop¶
The shop where Huell buys a trash bag to hold the severed arm. The owner's cousin draws the axolotls in the shop. Bagging the arm lessens the smell but does not remove it. See The severed arm and the shop owner. (Summer Service 01)
Madeline's house¶
The house of Madeline Weathers, where the team escorts her after the visit to her uncle's walled house. Before they leave, the Biz plants a bug, the team gives her pager numbers, and Kurt gives her a joint and teaches her to make a Molotov cocktail. Huell gives her his knife. See Madeline Weathers and Arnold Weathers' house. (Summer Service 05)
The old docks¶
The weathered working docks of Marblehead, where Andrew finds Briggs dozing in a lawn chair beside a rickety fishing boat and the team questions him. Briggs blames "the goddamn Russians" for the bombing. See Briggs. (Summer Service 01)
Readful Things¶
An independent bookstore where the Biz buys the 1980 reprint of Moby Dick that he needs for his secret instructions. The clerk has the glow and watches him closely, and he also buys a newspaper there as cover. See Moby-Dick book cipher and the Readful Things clerk. (Summer Service 04)
Salem¶
The nearest city to Marblehead, a couple of miles away; Andre notes the team could walk there. A doctor in Salem drained the infected glass cut that Briggs took in the explosion, and Irene Scott's daughter was taken to the big hospital there, where she was on a ventilator for a couple of hours. In Summer Service 04 a luck roll puts a large-animal vet in Salem, and Henry goes there for the ivermectin; in Summer Service 05 the signal from his radio comes from the Salem direction. Madeline Weathers says she gets her food from the Whole Foods in Salem. See also Ivermectin. (Radford Horror 08; Summer Service 01; Summer Service 04; Summer Service 05)
The Scott home¶
A small suburban house near the commercial district, which is also the office of Scott Insurance. Irene checks the team's ID and offers coffee and snacks, and Douglas arrives with his young daughter Lena, who crawls into Andrew's lap and asks for coffee. See Scott Insurance, Douglas Scott and Lena Scott. (Summer Service 01)
Seabrook nuclear plant¶
Also called Seabrook. The nuclear power station that Andre says has "just opened," which the college protesters blame for the fish die-off. The front page of the Salem Statesman's Journal covers the plant protests alongside the die-off. See College protesters and The nuclear power plant. (Summer Service 03; Summer Service 04)
