Description¶
A clear, collapsible umbrella with aerodynamic stabilizer fins, which keep it at a fixed orientation, and a single windshield wiper attached to the middle spoke. Twisting the spoke turns the wiper against the umbrella. It collapses into her hip bag. Andre pitched the idea to Rita during the trip to the capital, and she accepted it. (Philosopher's Fist)
Properties¶
It works as a bug shield at speed. On her trip to the Capital, Mirabeth uses her legendary speed as a dignified power-walk down the shoulder of I-95 in pumps, holding the open parasol in front of her and going up and over any car in her way. She says she has "really perfected the art of this over the decades." Dante called the result "Fucking speedster Mary Poppins." (Philosopher's Fist)
History¶
Besides the I-95 trip, the parasol appears in the final scene: after her debriefing and Derk's 2 a.m. call, Mirabeth sighs, pulls out the umbrella and sets out to fetch him from Wisukonshin. Andre pictures her with the umbrella out in front of her and the windshield wiper running. (Philosopher's Fist)
