The stealth wreck¶
The stealth wreck is a sunken, radar-evading vessel on an underwater shelf off Marblehead, found during the unrecorded Summer Service 02 dive and later revealed to be the boat of the radio contact's "advanced team".
| Type | Location (undersea wreck) |
| Aliases | dive site; the shelf; boat with a bite out of it |
| Region | Ocean off Marblehead, Massachusetts |
| First appearance | Summer Service 02 (unrecorded), recapped in Summer Service 03 |
Unrecorded session
The dive happened in Summer Service 02, which was never recorded. It is known only from the team's phone briefings to Big Bill in Summer Service 03 and from a remark in Summer Service 06.
Description¶
According to the recap, the team dived in an experimental submarine with some college students, one of whom had earlier found a dead body under a sunken vessel. At the shelf they found a wreck designed to minimize its radar signature, with no 90-degree angles and a sawtooth shape on all the flat parts. Kurt remembered a turret with big capacitors on it (Summer Service 03).
The body was gone. The part of the wreck that had covered it had a chunk "eaten" out, and Andrew Howard told Big Bill that the boat had been "eaten" where the body lay; Big Bill concluded that whoever came back had cut part of the boat out and taken the body (Summer Service 03).
The capacitor turret¶
Kurt explained to Big Bill that capacitors meant the weapon discharged a large amount of electricity, so it could be a directed-energy weapon, a rail gun or a Gauss cannon. Big Bill compared it to Reagan's "Star Wars" proposal and said he would try to get a submarine out to take a closer look at the wreck (Summer Service 03).
History of events there¶
- The dive (unrecorded). While the team was at the wreck, a vessel covered in lights, "gyroscope" shaped, returned and hummed at a frequency that threatened their own submarine. The team lost power, left everything off and hid, and were not found. The vessel moved as if searching for something, then left. It matches the description of the later angel thing (Summer Service 03).
- Exposure. Kurt, Huell and Andrew were poisoned by the synthetic nerve agent around this time; the Biz was not (Summer Service 03).
- Identification. In the finale, Rita asks the radio contact whether his "advanced team" were the dead crew at the bottom of the ocean, and Dante names "the boat with a bite taken out of it". The radio contact confirms and apologizes that their broad-spectrum nerve agent leaked when they "got blown up" (Summer Service 06).
What remains unknown¶
Who the advanced team and the contact's organization really are (see Mystery covert group), what blew the vessel up, and what ate the piece out of it.
