Description¶
The hair tie is small, hard and plastic, with a pink butterfly on it. Kurt called it a "hair tie" and Andre's narration also calls it a "hairband" (Radford Horror 03).
History¶
In Radford Horror 03, Kurt broke into the barn behind the Augustine house, where Derek Augustine writes. He found a desk with a typewriter, a notepad of plot notes for a romance novel with dates paired with acronyms he did not recognize, condoms in the desk drawer, aspirin and cigarettes. A second Investigate a Mystery roll (7) in the couch cushions turned up the hair tie, which Kurt took along with wadded drafts from the trash (Radford Horror 03).
In Radford Horror 05, during the autopsy of Amanda Lucky with Dr. Harvey Mauden, Andre described a single pink butterfly hair tie stuck in her blood-matted hair. The players recognized it as matching the one from the barn couch, and Mauden tagged and bagged it with the remains of her dress. Kurt later cited it when naming Dr. Lori as suspect, since Lori's patients kept disappearing and the team had found the same butterfly clip where Lori had gone (Radford Horror 05).
When the team interviewed the Augustines, Kurt told Derek that he had noticed a similar pink clip on the ground in the yard by the barn, concealing the break-in. Derek replied that Amanda had come over to see his daughter Phoebe a few weeks earlier for a school project, and that Phoebe had a bunch of such clips, so one could easily have fallen off while the girls played in the backyard. Rita's character, Andrew, noted that the hair tie may simply have been from a multipack (Radford Horror 05).
In the recap in Radford Horror 08, Andre reported that Derek and Dr. Lori had both confessed to an inappropriate sexual relationship with Amanda (Radford Horror 08). The episodes never state whether the hair tie was actually Amanda's from the barn or Phoebe's, although the confession places Amanda in Derek's circle.
