Minor locations: The Roulet Estate¶
Minor locations of The Roulet Estate, in alphabetical order. The main sites have their own pages: The Roulet House, Roulet Basement, Hidden Attic Lair, The Clown Mansion, The Weapons Closet, Brooks Pharmacy and Vorkuta Corrective Labor Camp.
Andrew's New York Hotel¶
The hotel room where Andrew Howard lives during his desk posting in New York. Shirtless, he thaws the weekly shipment of human blood in a Brita pitcher, wonders whether he died and what he has become, and watches Roseanne by the light of the TV. The epilogue ends here when the phone rings and the President says, "Something's happened in Virginia." (Roulet Estate 03) See also Frozen Blood Shipments.
Ballard¶
The Utah town that was one of the two disaster sites of The Walkers in Skin; see Ballard, Utah. In Roulet Estate 01 it appears only as the setting of the three treasured Polaroids of UFOs that Andrew keeps in his satchel alongside his camera. (Roulet Estate 01)
Exeter, Rhode Island¶
The rural town where the Roulet house stands, at 118 Benefit Street. The nearest significant town is about a two-hour walk down a winding dirt road, or about an hour of hiking as the crow flies, and snow and cold close in over the course of the arc. The pharmacy where the stolen car turns up is in a town about 25 miles away. (Roulet Estate 02, Roulet Estate 03) See also The Roulet House.
Former Soviet Parliament Building¶
The Moscow building where the Biz is shackled to a chair in a small meeting room after his flight from Vorkuta. Boris Yeltsin finally walks in, offers a Cuban cigar and asks about the humanists. A silent FSB officer stares at the Biz. (Roulet Estate 03) See also The Humanists.
Huell's Apartment Building¶
The filthy apartment and building where Huell Kendrick recovers in March 1993, on disability and in a wheelchair, with two steps up to the elevator landing and communal mailboxes. He is nearly broke and spends his days drinking and watching Roseanne. His neighbor Mrs. McGann hauls the chair up the steps, and the elevator kid asks about his foot. The apartment returns in Radford Horrors 01. (Roulet Estate 03)
Pawtucket¶
The monk's destination, 1 hour 21 minutes away by car and nine hours on foot. "Pawtucket" is the one word the monk and the agents share, and it becomes a running gag as the agents keep trying to get the half-kidnapped man there. He eventually leaves by taxi. (Roulet Estate 01, Roulet Estate 02) See also The Finnish Hare Krishna Monk.
Quantico¶
The FBI training base in Virginia where Kurt Larson lectures young agents in April 1993. His subject is silent breach technique, including a flashlight tip used to signal which corner to take, an infrared laser matched to night vision, and the fact that red dots do not work with headsets. In the evenings he calls his wife and kids from a hotel and spends a couple of hours "visualizing the polygon." (Roulet Estate 03)
Roosevelt Medical Tent¶
A flashback setting at the edge of Roosevelt, Utah, 78 days before the present; see Roosevelt, Utah. EMTs in respirators treat the agents while hazmat crews bring in more National Guardsmen covered in white powder. McManley limps to Andrew's bed to report that the powder is a cocktail of benzos and sedatives, and the Major is carried in among the casualties. (Roulet Estate 01) See also Utah White Powder.
Roulet Barn¶
A barn behind the Roulet house, chained with a bike lock that the agents cut with bolt cutters. It holds a riding lawnmower, gardening supplies and a huge pile of crushed plastic water bottles. (Roulet Estate 02) See also Riding Lawnmower.
The Biz's Apartment and Buried Gold¶
The Biz's apartment, which the table establishes he prepaid for a year in January, in gold, to a slightly seedy landlord who would not ask questions, and the park near his house where the other agents buried his share of the gold after he vanished, leaving him a cryptic message. After Andrew mutters "He's probably dead," he plans to go knock on the apartment door and ask the landlord whether he has been seen. (Roulet Estate 03) See also The Georgia Gold.
The Dive Bar¶
The bar where the agents drank angrily after officials came to take their files, shortly before Inauguration Day. Andrew's last memory is of being dragged there, and Diane later says they had been driving for seven hours. Its location is never given. (Roulet Estate 01)
World Trade Center¶
The site of Andrew's desk posting on the February 1993 bombing investigation. He analyzes photographs of the bomb in an office there, and a 747 passes outside the window. (Roulet Estate 03) See also February 1993 WTC Bombing.
