Ivermectin

Ivermectin is the veterinary dewormer that McManley recommends against the Marblehead worm infection, which Henry fetches from Salem and which strips Huell of his worm-given strength.

Type Item (medicine)
Aliases worm pills; worm medicine
Holder McManley's assistant Henry fetched it; Huell is the notable patient
First appearance Summer Service 03

Description

An antiparasitic normally bought from a large-animal vet, a "horse doctor". Dante points out that it is also used in fish farming, which gives it a slight reason to be in Marblehead (Summer Service 04).

Properties

McManley recommends it against the worms in the communion wine (Summer Service 03). In the finale, deworming ends the infected's enhancements but is hard on the body. Huell loses his worm "luster", gets a pounding headache and later visibly loses muscle and hair, regains wrinkles, runs a high fever and vomits dying worms. Zack removes the worm bonus from Huell's sheet. Andre also says that some of the infected will not pull through the treatment (Summer Service 06).

History

  • The recommendation. McManley tells Andrew to find a horse doctor, get ivermectin into his body as soon as possible, and keep away from the wine. Huell is torn: he likes his hairline and fitness, but Zack wonders whether he will end up a zombie or a "super tough worm guy" (Summer Service 03).
  • Henry's errand. After the Biz wins McManley over (Manipulate Someone, 13), McManley lends the team his assistant Henry. Henry is sent to Salem for ivermectin or any other broad-spectrum parasite killer, armed with Huell's concealed carry permit as FBI cover, and Vespas off into the rain (Summer Service 04).
  • Advice to Madeline. Kurt tells Madeline Weathers to get antiparasitics, even if she has to lie to a horse doctor about having a pony (Summer Service 05).
  • Delivery. On the road toward Salem, Henry sits on his blood-soaked Vespa holding a pharmacy bag. He climbs into the team's vehicle and says, "Here's your worm pills. I'm going to bed." The players stop the session before anyone takes the pills, and Kira points out that killing a host's parasites all at once can make the host very ill (Summer Service 05).
  • Effect on Huell. By the finale the deworming is already taking hold in Huell. The pills are taken off-screen, between Summer Service 05 and the finale, during the unrecorded Summer Service 05.5. Andre has the National Guard distributing deworming medicine across Marblehead (Summer Service 06).

Trivia

  • Dante's Kurt jokes about getting "some of that suppressed COVID cure" in Summer Service 05. When Andre suggests filling a Super Soaker with dissolved ivermectin in Summer Service 06, Zack answers, "Not COVID."
