Description¶
Andre describes him as an older gentleman in a lieutenant's uniform. A young lieutenant at the checkpoint first turns the team away, saying that nobody may enter or leave after "a biological incident" and offering to divert them to a hotel set up outside town. When Kurt says they are the FBI agents the Guard has been looking for, the young lieutenant takes them to the older officer (Summer Service 06). His name is never given.
History¶
The officer tells the team he has been told they have a canister of liquid that they call worm cure. Kurt Larson says it should kill the worms but not human tissue and hands over the half-empty anti-worm agent canister, which the officer sends to the chemist. Kurt explains that the team has been intercepting a splinter group of bioterrorists who tried to cause an incident at the nuclear plant. The officer calls it "a clusterfuck" and sends them to a tent with a phone (Summer Service 06).
After the team's call to Big Bill, in which the two agree to tell everyone that terrorists were responsible, the officer asks Andrew Howard for his account. He mentions the "real weird murals" in City Hall and says the group failed to take down the plant but killed a few of the guards. Andrew cites the group's literature about returning to the ocean and describes a parasite put into much of the local food supply; Kurt and Andrew say that the origin of the canister and any link to the synthetic nerve agent are unclear. The officer replies that his field medics are reporting "profoundly wild things," that the military is distributing deworming medicine, and that some patients will not pull through. See Terrorist cover story (Summer Service 06).
He sends the team to the medical tent for antivirals and hot soup. As he leaves to speak to his superior "about worms," he mentions that "someone used a tactical nuke at the nuclear power plant" and that it will be hard to keep out of the news. The team feigns surprise ("That scoundrel. What?"); the weapon in question is the team's own M28 Davy Crockett (Summer Service 06).
