The radio contact

The radio contact is an unnamed, cheerful voice on the task force's pocket radio who supplies the anti-worm agent, tracks the angel thing and plans the nuclear shot with Kurt in the finale of The Summer Service.

Type NPC (voice only)
Aliases Mystery voice; unnamed radio contact
Affiliation The mystery covert group
Status Unknown (as of Summer Service 06)
First appearance Summer Service 06
Played by Andre (game master)

Description

The contact is heard only over the radio. He is cheerful and casual and swears freely. He is relieved when Kurt Larson tells him the team already knows about the worms and the creature, and delighted by Kurt's news of the Davy Crockett. He says he is allowed to tell them only things they already know, and that some things in life have to remain a mystery (Summer Service 06).

History

The Summer Service

Earlier contact. In Summer Service 05, voices on the team's frequency snap, "We're the goddamn Marines. Get off the line," and order everyone to switch to frequency B. In Summer Service 06 the contact apologizes for "my commanding officer's rudeness earlier" and says "we were in a tight situation, and he got a little heated." Later in the same episode Andre has the team receive updates from "the Marines," which ties the two together (Summer Service 05; Summer Service 06).

The call. In the finale the radio crackles as the glowing angel thing turns back toward the sea. The voice asks whether the explosion was the team; it was the claymore they set off on the truck. He tells them, "you pissed it off." Kurt summarizes the situation (worm-controlled people and the big glowing thing), and the voice reveals that his side has an agent for the worms and a "Casaba," which cannot be fired from the ground and cannot be flown in the storm (Summer Service 06).

Kurt asks "Can you keep a secret?" and reveals the team's Davy Crockett with its W54 warhead. The voice does not recognize the model name ("It might be different where I'm from"), learns that the yield is half a kiloton, and calls it the best news he has heard all day. They agree on a plan: the creature is heading for the nuclear power plant, where the convoy of infected will engage plant security and force the creature out of the water, and the team will take a long shot from a vantage point. The voice offers to track the creature and report its positions (Summer Service 06).

The agent. The voice describes the anti-worm agent as a liquid poison. He will dump some in the ocean to deal with contaminated fish, and Kurt suggests crop-dusting after the storm. He says, "we're gonna have to kill all these people," but "better to do it once they no longer have special support," and adds that the agent "won't kill anything else, probably." Andrew Howard grabs the radio and asks whether the "advanced team" was dead at the bottom of the ocean; the voice answers, "Oh, you do know about the advanced team," and apologizes that the broad-spectrum nerve agent leaked when "we got blown up." He warns the team not to soften up the convoy beforehand because "they got like eight" worm bags. Kurt winks at the radio and the voice winks back (Summer Service 06).

The shot. After the creature dies, the contact whoops, "That was awesome!", tells the team to get away from there, urges them to get iodine, and says he will leave "a little present on the road" and dump the rest of the agent in the ocean. The team later finds the half-empty canister on the freeway (Summer Service 06).

What remains unknown

His name, his commanding officer, his organization and what "where I'm from" means. He claims experience with nuclear plants ("I've done this before"), which Kurt doubts (Summer Service 06).
