Description

Wells is never seen. She is described only by role: superintendent of the public school, handler of church community events, and town treasurer (Walkers 02). A Ballard store clerk calls her "the goddamn busybody" and blames her and the mayor for the community center (Walkers 02).

History

Walkers 02 to 04: the community center

At the Ballard general store, a clerk resents the community center, blames the mayor (Wilford Hiram) and Wells, and says she would prefer a clinic. The team adds the community center, the mayor and Wells to its list of leads (Walkers 02). See Community center.

In Maggie's bar, the bartender, who went to every grade of school with Wells and dislikes her, says the center is being built half the county away from the community and that Pueblo ruins were bulldozed for it despite a protest. She says Wells "dug in like a child" once people objected and thinks that gives Wells leverage. (Walkers 03).

In Walkers 04 Rita recalls that "Deborah mentioned how bad it was" at Ballard High School, and Dante asks whether she also mentioned someone hiding toilet seats in the walls (Walkers 04). See Ballard High School.

Walkers 06 and 07: City Hall

In abandoned-looking Ballard City Hall, the team finds two heavily used desks. One, piled with New York Post newspapers that stop about three months earlier and buried under hundreds of Tootsie Roll wrappers, is the mayor's; the other is Wells's (Walkers 06). See Sugar clues. The team later recaps her and the mayor among the City Hall evidence (Walkers 07); see also Disappearances in Ballard.

Trivia

  • Speaking as the bartender, Andre first called her "Misabelle," then asked the table to "retcon that in your minds" (Walkers 03).
