The Flag Contest¶
Non-canon
The Flag Contest belongs to the non-canon one-shot Philosopher's Fist 3.J/2: Unchainable, not to the main campaign.
The Flag Contest is the national-holiday event at which children from disadvantaged communities show the president their designs for the tournament's logo, and the way Mirabeth schemes to get the over-age Derk into the president's presence.

Overview¶
After the safety briefing, Mirabeth asks whether the president's office has any child-outreach event she can sneak Derk into for publicity. Her Assess the Situation roll (a 9, with a -1 because there might not be one) reveals that a national holiday is associated with the tournament, on which kids from disadvantaged communities show off the promotional art they made for the logo. One design is picked, and a professional graphic artist turns it into the real logo. An old bridge buddy of Mirabeth's is on the committee. (Philosopher's Fist)
The scheme¶
On a video phone Mirabeth calls her friend, claiming Derk is 14. The age limit for the event is 15. Her Pierce the Mask roll fails (3), so she gets only a place on the wait list and the address of a pre-event social in the Capital. The friend is briefly confused when Mirabeth asks about peers for Derk, since the tournament's own entry limit is 17. (Philosopher's Fist)
Mirabeth sends Derk to the Public Library to draw a flag, and then tears the result off the floor. At the community-center social, ten blocks away, the other children are at-risk teens. A bully insults Derk, and he does not understand it; a kind 14-year-old, Sarah, then befriends him and shows him her flag. Mirabeth meets Addison and her son and sells the oil pyramid. That night the friend calls to say a spot has opened up for Derk, who does not draw a better flag and keeps the stars and scorpions. The next morning, in a line of disadvantaged youths, he presents his flag to the werewolf president. (Philosopher's Fist)
Trivia¶
- Matt made flags for an in-joke "flag contest" on the table's Discord; Andre noted that he had not yet seen them.
