Description

The monk is bald, wears an orange robe and carries a backpack stocked with screwdrivers, a camp frying pan, camp plates and a canteen. He is friendly and expressive, and communicates mostly through gestures and a language none of the agents can place. Kurt rolls a 7 on a Sharp check and rules out every Asian or Middle Eastern language he knows; Kurt also asks the monk for Gatorade "in every language". (Roulet Estate 01)

History

The Roulet Estate

The monk is first seen on the stairs of the abandoned house the agents wake up in, after a blackout drinking binge that followed the disbanding of the task force. Huell hands him his unloaded gun to see whether he would shoot; the monk gives it back, and Huell concludes the agents did not kidnap him. Outside, he has built a campfire and is frying Spam. (Roulet Estate 01)

Diane, who drove the agents about seven hours to Rhode Island, explains that she did not want to pick him up because she feared a Hare Krishna scam, but the drunk agents insisted. She thinks he did not want to come. He serves the group a breakfast of reconstituted eggs, Spam and thick instant coffee, and points at the house, saying something before shrugging. The only word anyone understands is "Pawtucket," which prompts him to give a double thumbs-up and produce screwdrivers. (Roulet Estate 01)

When a sniper opens fire, the monk tackles Andrew behind the car as a window explodes and drags him inside. He then locks himself in a bathroom and chants quietly there as evening falls. Kurt tells him he may stay inside as a civilian. (Roulet Estate 01)

In Roulet Estate 02 he hides during the gunfire in the basement, sprints after the stolen car shouting "Pawtucket!" and gives up after about a hundred feet. The agents struggle over what to do with the man they have half-kidnapped, and he accompanies them on the hike to the clown mansion. Back at the house he watches the agents carry guns down the chimney with saucer-shaped eyes. When Andrew mimes a warning about the drugged water and tries to take the monk's bottle, a Manipulate Someone roll (a natural 12, 11 after modifiers) makes the monk drop it in disgust, and Andre rules that Andrew finally recognizes the language: Finnish. (Roulet Estate 02)

Kurt orders a taxi to Pawtucket with his own money. It arrives at the Roulet house, where Kurt hands the monk the team's card and a wad of cash. The monk shouts something incomprehensible from the cab as he leaves. (Roulet Estate 02)

Relationships

Kurt feels responsible for the "kidnapped" man; the table's running joke is that the agents will keep kidnapping him until they get him to Pawtucket. Zack (as Huell) questions why the monk was brought so far and voices the monk's contempt for the agents ("Ah, perverts."). (Roulet Estate 02)

Trivia

  • Andre voiced the monk's Finnish as invented gibberish, so his lines differ from scene to scene.
  • It is never established why he wanted to go to Pawtucket or what he was trying to say about the house.
