Minor items and artifacts: The Roulet Estate

Minor items of The Roulet Estate, in alphabetical order. Larger objects of the arc have their own pages, including the Foil-Wrapped Letter, the VSS Rifle, the Wedding Photos, the Visitation Tapes, the Green Slurry, the Beta Blockers, the Attic Polaroids, the Mosin-Nagant, the Foam-Latex Alien Mask and The Agents' Car.

Andrew's Pager

Andrew Howard's pager, which shows the last page he received. That page came from a number he does not recognize, and it is never traced. It fits with Diane's account that Andrew took a call at the bar before the trip. (Roulet Estate 01)

Andrew's Polaroid Camera

A Polaroid camera that Andrew pulls from his satchel when the Grey appears on the roof, kept alongside three treasured Polaroids of the UFOs over Ballard. He is too starstruck to use it on the Grey, but in Roulet Estate 02 he takes flashlight Polaroids of the corpse parts brought up from the basement and of the hidden attic lair. (Roulet Estate 01, Roulet Estate 02) See also Andrew's satchel.

Black 9mm Pistol

The pistol clutched in the intruder's left hand against the steering wheel in the cold open of Roulet Estate 03. The intruder sits in the agents' stolen car, humming along to "Radar Love" and tapping his fingers on the dashboard as the fuel needle dips into the red. (Roulet Estate 03)

Brick Cellphone

The big cellular phone that the businessman hostage carries out of the Brooks pharmacy so that the agents can call the gunman. The number is 401-998-3147. Andrew Howard stalls by pretending to have dialed a wrong number, then calls as Special Agent Howard and plays dumb about vehicle brands, until the gunman cuts his deadline to two minutes. (Roulet Estate 03)

Briefcase of Cash

A briefcase of money found in the hidden attic lair, looking as though it was being packed and then abruptly abandoned. The agents bag the cash along with the guns and valuables and carry it down the chimney so the intruder cannot use it. (Roulet Estate 02)

Butterfly Knife

A butterfly knife crusted with blood, in an ornate case beside a boarded-over attic vent in the lair. Andre tells Andrew the blood is months old, and the find, with the photos on the walls, strikes him as the most serial-killer material he has ever seen. (Roulet Estate 02)

Cocoa-Butter Jar

A huge glass jar of cocoa-butter lotion among the cleaning supplies in the basement, with a hand-shaped scoop taken out of it. The agents joke that someone has psoriasis. (Roulet Estate 02)

Dunhill Lighter and Cigar Cutter

A Dunhill lighter and cigar cutter that Andrew Howard found at a pawn shop or thrift store as his Secret Santa gift to Huell Kendrick at the Christmas Eve party. (Roulet Estate 01) See also Christmas Eve Secret Santa.

Dusty Stetson

A dusty Stetson hat. In the cold open of Roulet Estate 01 the Biz crawls three feet across the floor of the abandoned living room and vomits into it. (Roulet Estate 01)

Fake Alien Fetus Jar

Kurt Larson's Secret Santa gift to Andrew, from a flea market: a fake alien fetus, a monkey sewn to an octopus, in a jar with a visibly bulging lid and a distinct coleslaw odor. Rita (as Andrew) shakes it and remarks, "Baby's fermenting." Diane says it is the grossest thing she has ever seen and tells the agents they are the weirdest cops. (Roulet Estate 01) See also Christmas Eve Secret Santa.

Fake ID

Huell Kendrick's Secret Santa gift to the Biz: the identification of a recently deceased man who looks something like him. (Roulet Estate 01)

Frozen Blood Shipments

Human blood mailed weekly to Andrew in dry ice, disguised as frozen orange juice. In the epilogue Andrew thaws it in a Brita pitcher in his New York hotel and, after watching Roseanne, raises a glass of it to his lips. The shipments come from his doctor. (Roulet Estate 03) See also Andrew's Doctor and Andrew's Condition.

Herman Miller NSA Chair

A Herman Miller chair stamped "Property of the National Security Agency," which Kurt steals as his gift for Diane. He admits it is a little used but points out that new it costs about eight grand. Diane says she will set her old chair on fire at the curb, and Kurt agrees they will have to "for the bugs." (Roulet Estate 01) See also Unnamed NSA Agent.

Marked-Up Map

A marked-up map found in the agents' car. Together with Diane's testimony, it convinces Andrew that the agents are at the right address. (Roulet Estate 01)

Mr. Roulet's Gun Collection

The firearms collection looted from the weapons closet and stored in the attic lair, including a Kalashnikov and Russian World War II pistols, many of them loaded. The agents reason that it explains why the intruder shoots a VSS, and they bag the guns and lower them down the chimney into the house. (Roulet Estate 02) See also Mr. Roulet.

Mystery Government Files Floppy

A floppy disk labelled in Sharpie "Mystery Government Files," the Biz's Secret Santa gift to Kurt. The label sets off Kurt's "schizophrenic detector," and the disk is never read on screen. (Roulet Estate 01)

Riding Lawnmower

A riding mower in the Roulet barn, the exact model Kurt owns at home, with a top speed of about 8 mph. Squirrels have chewed some of the wiring, but Kurt gets it started. The Biz asks about modifying it, and Andre rules that only a perfect 12 on a Sharp check would do it without breaking the mower or hurting himself. Ezra suggests sending it off as a decoy with a brick on the pedal and a scarecrow aboard. The agents reject it as transport because it is loud, can only go on the road and cannot carry everyone. (Roulet Estate 02)

The Biz's Flask and Lighter

The vodka flask and lighter that supply Kurt's smoke screen at the Brooks pharmacy. With a shot-out tire and a bag of stale donuts from the squad car, he builds a smoke bomb: the Biz's vodka goes on the tire, which is lit with his lighter. The smoke comes out slowly and thickens gradually. (Roulet Estate 03)

The Georgia Gold

The gold nuggets that the Biz brought back from Georgia during The Things in Appalachia. He gives one to the Salvation Army carolers in Roulet Estate 01, and complains that no one will accept nuggets as currency. In Roulet Estate 03 the table establishes that the team split the gold equally and that, after the Biz vanished, the other agents buried his share in a park near his house and left him a cryptic message. In Radford Horrors 01 his whole share is instead found under a floorboard in his apartment. (Roulet Estate 01, Roulet Estate 03, Radford Horrors 01) See also The Biz's Apartment and Buried Gold.

The Roulets' Notebook

A partly coded notebook found in the house's library, among UFO and Scientology material. It logs months of incidents ending in fall 1992: lights flying over the house, lost time, figures in the woods, the feeling of being watched, objects moved or taken. After a successful roll Andrew concludes that the owners were a husband and wife, and that the wife was more of a true believer. (Roulet Estate 01)

Utah White Powder

The powder that covered the Guardsmen in Roosevelt, Utah, during The Walkers in Skin. In the flashback to the medical tent, McManley reports that it is a cocktail of benzos plus something still unidentified, sedatives and hypnotics, which turns out to be a mild amnesiac that erased about twenty hours of memory for most of the soldiers. Kurt keeps a Ziploc baggy of it. (Roulet Estate 01)

WWII Flamethrower

The one weapon left in the looted weapons closet, seen by Andrew when he squeezes his head and flashlight under the steel door: a World War II-era flamethrower on the rear wall. In Roulet Estate 03 a police officer reports that the pharmacy gunman has a flamethrower, a machine gun and a big rifle; it is never said whether this is the same flamethrower. (Roulet Estate 01, Roulet Estate 03) See also The Weapons Closet.

Yeltsin's Cuban Cigar

The cigar that Boris Yeltsin cuts and lights, with a small silver lighter, for the shackled Biz before asking about the humanists. (Roulet Estate 03)
