Description

Freak wears an unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt and flip-flops, and is badly sunburned. His legs are scarred by burns and missing chunks, which Kurt recognizes as fragmentation-grenade shrapnel wounds. He drinks, smokes and snorts heroin (Radford Horror 07). When Kurt addresses him as Freak he protests, "Oh, oh, oh, please, my dad calls me Freak... You can call me Francesco." After landing, he says, "Thank you for flying Francisco Airlines." His plane is a baby-blue Cessna that looks painted with house paint. Inside are a four-inch disco ball, black lights, neon suede seat covers and a smell of weed. He calls the plane Annabelle.

History

In Radford Horror 07, the team drove to Roanoke Airport to rent a plane for an aerial survey of the woods around Radford. An attendant in red sunglasses sent them to Freak, who was asleep beside his Cessna. His opening line was "I don't fly Feds." Dante offered a baggie of heroin from Dean Lawson's stash, saying, "We're cool Feds. Let us in the plane." Kurt's Manipulate Someone roll only partly succeeded, so Freak asked for proof; Kurt snorted a bump with him. Freak quoted $200 plus gas, or the baggie, and Kurt paid $1,000 from the cash (Radford Horror 07).

The takeoff barely cleared a tall pine. Freak said pilots who fly Air Force One train at Roanoke to cure their fear of death, and that the only good thing about Vietnam was that "I functionally was not married." Kurt replied that Vietnam was where he met his wife. The engine missed every couple of seconds. Over Radford, Kurt spotted a clearing with a dilapidated building whose roof had caved in and a flash of dazzling blue beneath it. Freak circled low and the team saw an old church; the blue did not flash again. Andrew became severely airsick. See Old-town church (Radford Horror 07).

On approach to Roanoke the engine cut out, and Freak asked Kurt to kick a panel; Andre noted this was the first time he had rolled for an NPC's equipment. The engine restarted after twenty or thirty tense seconds ("There's some dirt in the fuel line, it clogs sometimes"). Landing, Freak snorted more heroin and said, "I love Mexican heroin... I've had this exact stuff before." He had bought it at a party from a young man, and when Dante gave a description of Dean Lawson, Freak agreed that sounded like him. He said the dealer got it from "a bunch of Mexicans", pointing the team toward the cartel. Kurt offered him sunscreen, and Freak fell asleep in his lawn chair (Radford Horror 07).
