Folded Face¶
The Folded Face is the peeled-off face of a dead man, found stuck to the wall of a blood-splattered cave outside Dahlonega. Andrew Howard bags it as evidence, and the team later hands it over to Dr. McManley.

Description¶
A man's face, folded and stuck to the cave wall with blood. Huell studies it and judges the man to be a middle-aged smoker who looks older than his hair color implies. Nobody on the team recognizes him. (Appalachia 03)
Properties¶
The face has no supernatural properties. The scene around it suggests that the man was shredded and smashed against the walls, "almost like when gators have been at a body for a while", with split bones, tooth marks, and muscle, organs and fat missing. Dante checks for powder marks and the smell of smoke or incendiaries and finds none, so this was not an explosion. (Appalachia 03) A glob of dark hair and fat stuck to the HF Lighter found in Andrew's hand looks roughly right for this face. (Appalachia 03)
History¶
The cave¶
Following his own blood trail, Andrew leads the team to a cave beside a road. Its interior is splattered with blood, and there is a very old pickaxe on the ground. Kurt notices a lump of skin on the wall, and after a moment realizes that it is a folded face. Andrew seals it in a bag and tosses it to Huell. The team photographs the scene and marks it with FBI pink flags. (Appalachia 03)
The mini fridge¶
Back at the Smith Hotel, the team stashes the face and the other evidence in the hotel mini fridge. When the team reaches McManley, he is thrilled by the news. "Oh, oh, tell me you have a body," he says, and when Andrew offers "a face in a bag", he answers, "Like Christmas." He then asks about RV hookups. (Appalachia 03)
Handed to McManley¶
When McManley's RV pulls into the hotel lot, Huell hands him the face. McManley holds it up and says, "Kinky. Alright. We'll get this analyzed." Andrew protests that it was only put in a bag, and McManley replies, "It's an expression, son." (Appalachia 04) Dick Baxter later brags about the face in the bag while softening a call to his friend Appleby, a federal judge, and promises, "I'll see if I can sneak you a chunk." (Appalachia 04)
The episodes do not report any result of McManley's analysis.
