Minor lore: The Summer Service¶
These are the smaller pieces of worldbuilding, period detail and procedure that surface during the Marblehead case. Larger topics have their own pages, such as the glow, Lemuria and the synthetic nerve agent.
Crystal Pepsi¶
A period brand that anchors the case in the spring and summer of 1992. Andre pauses to check when Crystal Pepsi came out, then confirms it was April 13th and that it had "just come out." Andrew spits the church's communion wine into an empty Crystal Pepsi bottle outside the service, and the bottle carries the sample to McManley for analysis. See Communion wine. (Summer Service 03)
FBI 48-hour hold rule¶
An arrest procedure that comes up in Summer Service 04, after Dante has floated kidnapping the mayor. Ezra asks whether the team can hold people without pressing charges for 48 hours, and Andre answers that the agents have 48 hours to deliver a suspect into custody and have them formally charged, during which time the suspect must be given basic rights, though not necessarily held at an FBI facility. See Mayor of Marblehead. (Summer Service 04)
FBI cover-up of strange cases¶
In Summer Service 05 Andrew tries to reassure Madeline Weathers that the Bureau has dealt with cases like hers before. He asks whether she has ever read about "Bigfoot fighting Mothman alien stuff" and believed it, and says the public never hears of such cases because "we don't need everybody knowing how weird the world gets." See Paranatural Incident Task Force and Acceptable fact pattern. (Summer Service 05)
Jesus as alien¶
Andrew's stated belief. When Madeline Weathers demands his "position on Jesus Christ," he answers that Jesus was an all-powerful alien who came to Earth to help humanity and guide it to a better future. The Biz says he wasn't sure he believed in God six months ago, but is starting to come around to the idea. See also The Masters and Aetherius Society. (Summer Service 05)
SKYHOOK¶
The code word under which the task force's reports are classified. Andre explains the chain above the team: Andrew reports to Big Bill Nelson, head of the Foreign Influence Task Force, since alien visitations are "foreign by definition." Nelson reports to Deputy Director Floyd Clark, and Clark reports to President George H. W. Bush. See Foreign Influence Task Force and Big Bill. (Summer Service 03)
