Lost episodes

Five sessions of PITF were played but never recorded. All that is known of them is what later episodes say: recaps, callbacks and consequences. This page lists each lost session and what later episodes establish about it. It also lists the five recordings that come from a single mixed audio track, where it is not always certain who is speaking.

Lost session Falls between What it contained
Summer Service 02 Summer Service 01 and Summer Service 03 The submarine dive
Summer Service 05.5 Summer Service 05 and Summer Service 06 The rescue of the scientists and the start of the chase
Appalachia 05 Appalachia 04 and Appalachia 06 The Biz's private night at the hotel
Appalachia 10 Appalachia 09 and Walkers 01 The arc finale
Walkers 08.5 Walkers 08 and Walkers 09 Horses, the radio station and the National Guard

Unrecorded sessions

Everything below comes from later episodes. Where a detail is stated outright it is given as fact; where it is only implied, the text says so. Each lost session also has its own page in the episode guide.

The Summer Service 02

The second session of The Summer Service covered the team's second day in Marblehead. Summer Service 03 picks up that night and treats its events as known; most of what follows comes from Andrew's phone report to Big Bill in that episode. (Summer Service 03)

  • The dive. In Andrew's words, "we went down in an experimental submarine with some college kids," one of whom "was gonna show us the dead body that she found while doing her submarine research." They went over the shelf to the stealth wreck. The body was no longer there. (Summer Service 03)
  • The thing with the lights. Something arrived while they were at the wreck: "Covered in lights, gyroscope fucking looking something or other... And most importantly, it like hummed." Big Bill concludes that whoever it is, "they're guarding the wreck." This is the first sighting of what the team later calls the angel thing. (Summer Service 03)
  • Who was aboard. Andrew describes the dive first-hand. The Biz was not on it: "I didn't go down in the submarine." (Summer Service 03, Radford Horrors 01)
  • The nerve agent. Members of the team were exposed to something that the lab says "wasn't VX exactly, but wasn't that far from VX." Kurt is still recovering from it in Summer Service 03; all he says of his own exposure is "I just got my hands wet." (Summer Service 03)
  • Chicken pox. Kurt also has adult chicken pox by the start of Summer Service 03. (Summer Service 03)
  • The marbles. The team already knows that the church's crystal spheres are diamonds. Andre: "I think Ezra told you guys the marbles are diamonds." (Summer Service 03)
  • Huell had been awake for 48 hours by the end of the day, and still could not sleep. (Summer Service 03)

Probably also in this session, though no one says so directly: the first meeting with Donald McManley, who was expected at the end of Summer Service 01 and is already at work in Marblehead in Summer Service 03. (Summer Service 01, Summer Service 03)

The Summer Service 05.5

An unnumbered session was played between Summer Service 05 and the finale. Summer Service 05 ends with the party clear of town and deciding whether to take the Ivermectin. Summer Service 06 opens with no recap, with the team on the road in a stolen car. Everything known about the session between comes from passing remarks. (Summer Service 05, Summer Service 06)

  • The scientists were found alive. Andrew tells the radio contact: "we found our research guys. They were alive." Kurt later says that the previous team "had been kidnapped." (Summer Service 06, Appalachia 01)
  • The cure. Huell took the deworming medicine: Andre tells Zack "you can feel that the deworming agent is kicking in." (Summer Service 06)
  • The cars. The team is driving a car they stole (Andre: "I will point out that you stole this car"), having left the Biz's Buick behind. Their own FBI car is no longer with them. They next see it in Summer Service 06, driven by Jester in the convoy until it sticks in a dip in the road. How the cars and the Davy Crockett changed hands is not said. (Summer Service 06)
  • The explosion. The radio contact mentions an explosion, which Andre identifies as "the claymore that you guys set off on the truck." (Summer Service 06)
  • The radio contact. The team had already spoken to the radio contact's side. He opens with an apology "for my commanding officer's rudeness earlier." (Summer Service 06)
  • McManley's lab techs were left behind. Dante: "We left the lab tech guys there, right, with the RV and shit." (Summer Service 06)

The Things in Appalachia 05

The fifth session of The Things in Appalachia covered one evening and night in Dahlonega. Appalachia 06 opens partway through a recap of it. (Appalachia 04, Appalachia 06)

  • The Biz's night. Part of the session was a private storyline between Andre and Ezra ("Your nonsense." "My thing, yes."). Andre says "the only part of that that was visible to you guys" was that the Biz wandered in the next morning in slept-in clothes, that "the hotel door next to yours had been broken down," and that "the Biz has a badly twisted ankle." State police searching the hotel bushes that morning find a pair of night-vision goggles. This follows from the camera the Biz planted in Room 111, and it leads to the Clinton surveillance scandal. (Appalachia 02, Appalachia 06, Walkers 01)
  • The ape-man result. By Appalachia 06 the team talks about "human hybrid tissue" and "an actual ape-man hybrid" as settled. At the end of Appalachia 04 the question was still open. (Appalachia 04, Appalachia 06)
  • The auditor. A Spud Hut financial auditor who had been following the team is an established contact in Appalachia 06. (Appalachia 06)
  • Frotter's bear. Frotter Comstock had asked the agents to deal with a bear on his land and been turned down. He opens Appalachia 06 still complaining about "the bear situation" and being left "defenseless." (Appalachia 06)
  • Andrew "was previously covered in blood" and has changed into a Bigfoot T-shirt. What happened to him is not said. (Appalachia 06)

It is never established whether the team attended the baptism of Jeremy that was planned at the end of Appalachia 04.

The Things in Appalachia 10

The finale of the arc was not recorded. Appalachia 09 ends with the injured party making its way out while Jan Martense escapes. Walkers 01, set afterwards, does not recap the finale; what is known comes out in Kurt's interrogation of Jan and the Biz's appearance on Letterman in that episode. Andre confirms that it all happened "the same day." (Appalachia 09, Walkers 01)

  • The confrontation. Jan shot Andrew in the face, and Kurt shot Jan. Dante (as Kurt): "Ah, you shot my leader in the face. Seemed only fair." The Biz, on television: "I shot a Polish man in the woods with a shotgun." (Walkers 01)
  • Andrew was "shot in the face and thrown around by the foot like a ragdoll." In Walkers 02 Kurt's comment is "Thank God for helmets." (Walkers 01, Walkers 02)
  • Jan was crushed by a falling ape, which broke his skull. He was captured, and Kurt interrogates him at Black Site Omaha. (Walkers 01)
  • Shelly. An ape woman, Shelly, was alive and was trying to kill the team. (Walkers 01)
  • The explosion. The Spud Hut facility blew up. Kurt believes the gas was deliberate: "They piped it in. It wasn't exactly a leak." (Walkers 01)
  • The fallout. The state police said they had found the Biz's night-vision goggles "in a rose bush," the Clinton surveillance became public, and the Biz became "the most hated cop in America." The Biz is also recovering from a heart attack. (Walkers 01)

The Walkers in Skin 08.5

An unnumbered session falls between Walkers 08 and the finale. Walkers 08 ends with the team turned back at the bridge blockade. Walkers 09 opens with the National Guard already on the scene, and Andre's opening recap lists what happened in between. (Walkers 08, Walkers 09)

  • The team "went and got some horses so that you could get around the roadblock."
  • They "took a generator to the radio station and called the National Guard."
  • They "met the National Guard on horseback outside of the town."
  • They "fought your way through the road barricade in between Ballard and Roosevelt."
  • They "breached and cleared the police station" in Roosevelt.
  • The plan when they stopped was "to go back to the community center to find out what's going on."

(Walkers 09)

Zack also recalls the team marking themselves with X's to tell themselves from copies ("Did we put X's on ourselves? I feel like we did"). Throughout this session Rita was still secretly playing the duplicate Andrew, who had ridden in the Guard's Humvee for part of it. (Walkers 09)

Other gaps

A few things happened off the recording even in sessions that were recorded:

Recordings with uncertain speakers

Most sessions were recorded with a separate audio track for each person. Five survive only as a single mixed track, so it is not always certain who is speaking:

Session What is uncertain
Radford Horror 01 The campaign premiere. Many lines are hard to assign, especially between Ezra, Zack and Andre.
Radford Horror 08 The first arc's finale. Speakers are uncertain throughout.
Summer Service 04 Many attributions are uncertain.
Appalachia 04 Several lines could belong to Zack, Dante or Ezra.
Appalachia 07 Lines for all five regulars are uncertain, and a few jokes cannot be credited to anyone.

What happens in these sessions is clear from context. Who said a particular line, or who made a particular roll, is the most likely reading and no more than that.
