Description

At the gym, the real Andrew Howard found a line of yellow light under the door and the latch taped over. When he knocked politely, nobody answered; inside, two horses stood on their hind legs beside the door, and one gestured him in with a hoof (Walkers 07). Andrew's player, Rita, answered with an awkward nod and a polite grimace.

History

The gym (Walkers 07)

Inside, a double of Andrew waved and shook his hand while the two horses flanked the real Andrew and armed townspeople filed in. After Andrew's pepper spray dropped the double in a seizure, a horse brought a hoof down on the back of Andrew's neck (4 harm) and someone shot him in the stomach with a shotgun (3 harm). Andrew pulled a grenade from his bag, and a horse kicked him (3 harm) as he tried to leave. The grenade slipped from his hand, and one horse threw itself onto it; the blast hurled a piece of the horse into his back. Another horse kept stamping on him, and he used Cast Out Evil on it, which made it go limp, though it still pinned him. A burning horse ran from the wrecked gym across the parking lot past Huell Kendrick, and afterward a dead horse lay by the door with horse pieces piled in the middle of the room (Walkers 07).

The blockade (Walkers 08)

At the bridge on the only road toward Bridgeland, the team scouted a barricade of about a dozen cars manned by twenty to twenty-five heavily armed people, most dressed as police. Andre added, "You also see some horses," and Dante (as Kurt) said he didn't like killing horses. The episode does not say whether those horses stood upright (Walkers 08). See Bridge blockade.

Not the same horses

In Walkers 09 the team and the ranch people rode horses because horses are nonferrous and the ranch phenomenon lifts metal. These were ordinary mounts: Huell enjoyed riding and whooped a great deal, and a horse put a hoof through the head of the Huell clone.

What remains unknown

  • Whether the horses are skinwalkers, animals under control, or loyal to the faction by some other means.

Trivia

  • Zack briefly took the burning horse for a "demon horse"; Andre confirmed it was "just a horse".
  • The horse that throws itself on the grenade is a rare heroic act by one of the arc's antagonists.
