Minor monsters and entities: The Things in Appalachia

Minor monsters and entities of The Things in Appalachia: lesser creatures, rumored beasts and unseen presences. The main creatures are covered under Ape-Men, Big Bob, the Half-faced Bear and the Thing That Attacked the Spud Hut Truck.

Ape Man

"The Ape Man" is the table's name for the ape-man specimen the team had tested before Appalachia 08. Dante says that "we know the Ape Man had a human father," and the table jokes about who the father might be. See Ape-Men. (Appalachia 08)

Ape-man Hybrid Tissue

In Appalachia 06 Kurt wants the gore smear on Frotter Comstock's property compared with human-hybrid tissue from an ape-man. He believes a real ape-man hybrid exists and is separate from the man in the Chewbacca costume. The result of any comparison is never shown. See Ape-Men. (Appalachia 06)

Frotter's Bear

Frotter Comstock insists a bear is responsible for the large streak of gore beside a shack on his property, which he calls "the bear incident" and says the agents should have shot. Kurt suspects the gore could be hybrid tissue. Andre's table ruling is "bears are just real." See also the Half-faced Bear. (Appalachia 06)

Giggling Presence

In the cold open of Appalachia 03, a boy on the Consolidated Gold Mine tour hears giggling from a roped-off passage. Moments later the rope poles are tipped over and his Game Boy is bleeping on the floor. The source of the giggle is never identified. See Frederick. (Appalachia 03)

Hidden Ape-man

Clive says there was always one ape-man he was never allowed to see, in a room he was not permitted to enter. He knew it existed only from the amount of food, and concedes it could have been two small ones. (Appalachia 09)

Man in Black

The Man in Black is a black-suited foe the team hit with their car in the middle of a road, who wielded a "magic flashlight that burns things." In Walkers 01, Dante compares him with the dead NSA agent whom Jan Martense says he hit on a Georgia road, since both were struck crossing a road at night, and jokes that they might both be aliens unaware of Earth customs. See also Dead NSA Man in Black. (Walkers 01)

Rabbit Thing

The "rabbit thing" is the creature that snatched a rabbit on the Circle Chasers' three-second clip: a rabbit freezes on the trail and a gray, man-sized blur grabs it. Searching later, the team finds a white rabbit's pelt, ripped open and gutted, in a treetop near the site. See White Rabbit Pelt. (Appalachia 02, Appalachia 03)

Rejects

The "rejects" are the ape-men Jan Martense's operation could not train. Clive says they did not take to the training because of temperament, and that Jan, who was "sensitive" about disposing of ape-men, kept them. When Clive learns the party killed some of them, Dante says "Two, I think." See Ape-Men and Clive. (Appalachia 09)

Wog of Winder

The Wog of Winder is a dog-like Georgia cryptid. Rita (as Andrew) warns the Circle Chasers that skeptics will dismiss their footage as the Wog, since the area is not far north of its range. It never appears. (Appalachia 02)
