Motel and Suites Clerk¶
The Motel and Suites Clerk is the tired, dry, cooperative man behind bulletproof glass at a de-branded Holiday Inn near Dahlonega, Georgia, who confirms that the drifter later found dead in a Chewbacca costume had stayed there as "John Doe".

Description¶
The clerk has worked at the motel for a few months. He sits behind bulletproof glass with a money slot, offers a "two-for-one special on pillows", and is weary and cooperative. The Holiday Inn part of the sign has been chiseled off because the motel lost the rights, though the imprint of the letters remains, and the air conditioners rattle at frequencies that drift in and out of phase (Appalachia 06).
History¶
When the team visits, the clerk recognizes the drifter's photo. The man stayed for a while, then "didn't re-up or take his stuff", so the clerk tossed it the day before. The register lists him as "John Doe", and he paid in cash. The clerk saw him with a walkie-talkie a couple of times, and a man in a motorcycle helmet picked him up on an ATV once or twice. He also had a female caller a couple of times (see Troy Cleaver for the dead man).
He warns the agents, "If you see a green garbage bag back there, don't open the green garbage bag." It holds the linens from a scatological pornographic shoot by a guest who registered as "Jenny Maxine", and such messes happen "conservatively four times a year". He never lets those guests back. When Kurt has the team search the dumpster, the clerk, who cannot open the office door during business hours, passes his phone through the money slot so Kurt can call McManley. The clerk remembers that the dead man took a pair of snakeskin cowboy boots from the room, and the team finds them in the trash. He says the man's room is already rented to a family and promises to call if they leave. He also gives Andrew a fatherly pat through the slot and a pep talk that he is in the right line of work (Appalachia 06). The dumpster search turns up the items described in Dead Man's Briefcase.
