Description¶
Tyler is an insomniac four-year-old in Pooh Bear pajamas, miserable at being woken. He knows Amanda Lucky only from trick-or-treating, has seen spacemen only on TV, and wants to be one when he grows up. His mother Mary, named once by Sheriff Frank Roosevelt, is reluctant to wake him ("he had a dream") and provides orange Tang. (Radford Horror 01)
History¶
On the task force's first morning investigating Amanda Lucky's disappearance, the team crosses the street from the Lucky house, about 100 feet away. Dick Baxter gives Tyler an FBI sticker, and Kurt Larson gives him a "Viet Cong tooth" and tells him they are secret agents. Tyler says he saw a light and a spaceman all in white with a helmet, up above the Lucky house, who "just went down" without obviously falling or using a ladder, and who was gone when Tyler came back from telling his parents. Asked by Kurt, he insists: "He was a spaceman. He looked like a spaceman." Told he could grow up to be an agent, he answers: "I want to be a spaceman." (Radford Horror 01)
Huell Kendrick speaks to Tyler privately while his parents are out of the room. Sheriff Roosevelt does not think he saw a spaceman and says he "had a dream." Kurt proposes a man in a motorcycle suit and helmet, and privately a person in a hazmat suit; the Biz also suspects a sleepy child mistook a motorcyclist. Nothing is confirmed in the episode. (Radford Horror 01)
The figure later becomes known as The Spaceman, eventually tied to Abelforth Whateley's homemade spacesuit and then to Wilbur Whateley; see Spaceman suit. Tyler does not appear again.
Trivia¶
- After the interview, Ezra (as the Biz) quips: "Unreliable witnesses. People going missing. Yep, this is exactly the same as investigating KGB agents."
- He thanks Kurt for the tooth at the end of the scene.
