Description

The pharmacy is a town drugstore with a counter, a computer, a records cabinet in back, security cameras whose footage is kept for a month, and a payphone outside, with a line of customers usually waiting (Radford Horror 02). The chain or brand is never given; Ezra jokes that it is a Walgreens or a grocery-store pharmacy.

History of events there

The visit (Radford Horror 02)

After Dr. Lori tells the team he prescribed Amanda only Xanax, denies ever prescribing Vicodin, and suggests forgery or a pharmacy error, the team visits the pharmacy (Radford Horror 02).

  • The pharmacist confirms the computer holds a record of Vicodin for Amanda under Dr. Lori. It was entered about a year earlier, was filled regularly, and began about four months after the Xanax.
  • Anyone with the password can alter records. Prescriptions are phoned in, written in a paper log, and then entered into the computer.
  • The pharmacist says he would never let Dean Lawson near the store. He says Matt McCready works at his parents' place, and rules out the Whateley boys and the Nichols girl as well. The Vicodin prescriptions he fills, apparently all from Lori, mostly go to 17- and 18-year-olds, a year or two older than the teenagers the team has been asking about.
  • Huell asks, "Supposing I wanted to fraudulently fill a prescription, how might I go about doing that?"
  • After checking with his boss, the pharmacist goes to look for the paper original, returns, and says he cannot talk. Kurt (Manipulate Someone, 10) gets him to confide off the record that the paper record is missing, "a big problem." Kurt gives him the number of the team's hotel and asks him to keep them posted.

Afterward the team lists the pharmacy's security tapes as a follow-up (Radford Horror 02). See also Amanda's prescriptions.

Later developments

In Radford Horror 05 a member of the sheriff's department tells the team that Derek Augustine, the father of Phoebe Augustine, is "one of the pharmacists" and a published romance novelist. Kurt makes him his prime suspect for the stolen paperwork. Augustine says he filled Lori's prescription for Amanda a couple of times, assuming it was for something like a wisdom tooth, and claims to know nothing beyond the "record error" the pharmacy is looking into. He adds that Dr. Lori came to see him the day before, upset about a prescription he had not written (Radford Horror 05).

Trivia

  • The pharmacy has more than one pharmacist. The episodes never establish whether the man at the counter in Radford Horror 02, who is not named, is Augustine or a colleague.
  • Huell's line "Supposing I wanted to fraudulently fill a prescription, how might I go about doing that?" prompts the pharmacist to ask whether he needs his lawyer (Radford Horror 02).
