Atolean Paranatural Index

The Atolean Paranatural Index is a ranking of places by UFO and cryptid sightings and disappearances per capita, which turned up in the background reading for the Paranatural Incident Task Force and marks Radford, Virginia as a hotspot.

Type Item (document, ranking)
Holder The task force, as part of the Radford case file
First appearance Radford Horror 01

Description

The index appears in a single episode. It looks at UFO and cryptid sightings per capita and disappearances per capita, and it includes a list of hotspot cities. The first case file, delivered to the barbershop headquarters in D.C. by an FBI courier, explains that the index came up during the background reading for the task force, that Radford is on the hotspot list, and that the report of Amanda Lucky's disappearance, with an artist's sketch of the spaceman a four-year-old described, triggered the guidelines the president had set out for the task force (Radford Horror 01).

History

With the file in hand, the team has about two hours before the four-hour, sixteen-minute drive to Radford, and is told to get a motel there (Radford Horror 01).

Local color supports the ranking. On arrival, a "Population 16,000" sign greets the team, and the Pay n' Stay clerk warns of missing people, lights in the sky and "people walking around who haven't even been born." He adds that his father thought the town was cursed because the local armory made guncotton for the atom bomb (Radford Horror 01). See Radford Arsenal.

What remains unknown

The episodes never explain who compiles the index, what "Atolean" refers to, or whether other places in the campaign appear on it.
