Minor locations: The Walkers in Skin¶
This page lists the minor places visited or mentioned in The Walkers in Skin; the main settings are Ballard, Roosevelt and the Sherman Ranch.
Ambush site¶
A stretch of the only road between Ballard and Roosevelt, where a spike strip rolls McManley's Suburban. Four townspeople attack him there, and the party later finds an empty Roosevelt police cruiser parked in the rocks nearby, the source of the spike strip, whose radio is silent on every channel. See the roadside ambushers. (Walkers 08)
Andrew's apartment¶
Andrew's home in Washington, D.C. Alberta Wilmarth turns up there at the end of Walkers 01, holding a box of documents and tapes, and asks the FBI to force the church to exhume her mother. The apartment also features in a dream Andrew recalls in Walkers 06, in which he takes out the trash and finds his naked self eating garbage. See Alberta's box. (Walkers 01, Walkers 06)
Ballard courthouse¶
A former church in Ballard that serves as the courthouse. It is closed after hours when the party drives into town in Walkers 03, and a bar across the street is open. A traditionalist judge sits here, and Big Bill later talks a religious judge into issuing the exhumation order. In Walkers 06 the courthouse is instead described as another double-wide; see Ballard City Hall. (Walkers 03)
Ballard radio station¶
A small radio station on the east side of Ballard, which Kurt spots on a town map as a possible backup source of communication. The party carries a generator there to broadcast to the National Guard, an event known from the recap at the start of Walkers 09. See the National Guard. (Walkers 08, Walkers 09)
Bridgeland¶
The next town past the bridge blockade, 23 miles from Roosevelt. In Walkers 08 the party votes to drive for it in a two-car convoy, before turning back at the blockade. The players first say "Ragland"; Andre gives the name as Bridgeland. See the bridge blockade. (Walkers 08)
Doug's trailer¶
A trailer in the desert whose key is hidden under a ceramic frog. It has a cross and a mirror in the entryway, cabinets full of hundreds of Jell-O packages, and plates of Jell-O in the fridge with rotting food shoved behind. It also holds a figure wrapped in garbage bags. The trailer appears only in cold opens, and its location is never given. See Doug and sugar clues. (Walkers 04, Walkers 06)
Duchesne¶
The town from which the tow truck comes to recover the wrecked rental van in Roosevelt. It is named only in passing. See the Plymouth Voyager. (Walkers 04)
East Lagoon Street¶
The Roosevelt street where the vanished Plymouth Voyager reappears, flattened and fused into the asphalt, with 10 to 20 percent of the car stuck in the road even after Huell lifts the wreck free. Andrew responds to the news with "It got unabducted." See the vanishing car. (Walkers 04)
Good Hills Diner¶
A busy diner in Roosevelt, recommended by Officer Hernandez. It serves the eight-inch French Toast Castle, two-pound biscuits and gravy, and funeral potatoes. The party breakfasts here in Walkers 04, with a glum waiter who mixes up the order. See French Toast Castle. (Walkers 04)
Pig pen¶
Alberta's pig pen on the ranch. She tends it in Walkers 02, and Walt says the pigs are nice "except for the screaming." In Walkers 04 a carbonized crow falls into it. See the burned crow. (Walkers 02, Walkers 04)
Roosevelt hospital¶
A small hospital in Roosevelt. In Walkers 07 it is where the naked intruder dies after being driven there. In Walkers 08, with the ambulance and its radio stolen, the doctors are keeping the generator running for a single ventilator patient. See the naked intruder. (Walkers 07, Walkers 08)
Salt Lake City¶
The state capital, where the party lands and where the FBI field office is. It is also the base of the Utah National Guard, 141 miles from Roosevelt, and the home of the dealer who rents the party a ground-penetrating radar for $800. In Walkers 08 the radios cannot reach it. See the FBI Salt Lake City field office. (Walkers 02, Walkers 04, Walkers 08)
Sheriff's double-wide¶
Sheriff McDermish's station and home, a trailer with a card table, a Monopoly game under way and a porch where he chain-smokes. Bud answers the door in Walkers 03. In Walkers 06 it is the place where the sheriff gives Kurt his Remington 870 and a list of absent families, before leaving town. See Ballard Sheriff's Office. (Walkers 03, Walkers 06)
Stewart's¶
A grocery store in Roosevelt with house egg-based ice cream, in hazelnut and French vanilla. The party shops here before the night event, and the elderly cashier gives Andrew his nickname "Half-Gallon Howard." See the checkout lady and Dollar Tree. (Walkers 05)
Stock-tank room¶
A dim room of tanks of dark liquid, hoses and wires, with distant voices and squeaking shoes, seen only in the cold open of Walkers 07. Huell's face rises from the last tank and opens bloodshot eyes. The scene hints that a copy of Huell exists; see Skinwalker Huell. (Walkers 07)
Vernal¶
A larger town east of Ballard, considered by the party in Walkers 08 as another way out of the area. They never go there. (Walkers 08)
World beyond the portal¶
A burned, blasted landscape under a smoky sky, with a trail of emergency lights, glimpsed through the portal in the cavern. The party sees no machinery on the far side, and the portal resembles the one in Georgia but does not exit there. It looks like an evacuation destination for the skinwalkers' tanks of blood. See the portal and the cavern. (Walkers 09)
Yusuf's junkyard¶
A junkyard with a car crusher and a magnetic crane, owned by Yusuf Ansari. The mayor says it lies in Ballard County outside the municipal limits, which is why he cannot help. The Roosevelt police arrested Yusuf after he confessed to crushing the Voyager; the party doubts the confession. (Walkers 05, Walkers 06)
