Minor characters: Radford (The Radford Horror and The Radford Horrors)

This page lists the minor and offscreen characters of the two Radford arcs, from clerks and deputies to people who are only ever mentioned.

Agent Cooper

Agent Cooper is an FBI agent working at the barbershop headquarters when the team is reassigned. He refuses to take the boxes of files stacked in the bathroom, insisting that Records "doesn't want" them, which leaves Andrew to clear them out himself. (Radford Horror 01)

Airport security agents

Unnamed agents at the airport flag Kurt's spear gun because the weapons-transport paperwork was lost and he has no FBI badge. After Kurt shows the Vietnam spear scar in his shoulder, one agent pinches the bridge of his nose and lets the gun through, while another swabs Andrew's blood powder. The airport is in chaos from a strike, and the team cannot find its colleagues to vouch for it. (Radford Horrors 02)

Andrew's mother

Andrew's mother is a devout single mother who has been staying with him in Washington for about a month. She pushes church socials and insists on visiting the office, and Andrew sleeps on the pullout couch while she stays. She is never seen onscreen. (Radford Horror 08)

Apartment office staff

The manager, a maintenance man and two or three secretaries run the office of the Biz's apartment building. When Andrew asks about the Biz they ask "Is he dead?", and they appear to be running a betting pool on it; half of them look disappointed when the answer is no. They hand Andrew the emergency key without asking for ID. (Radford Horrors 01)

Bryson Garland

Bryson is the son of Toby Garland and made the volcano at the school science fair. He is mentioned only; Kurtis privately wonders whether the boy has a learning disability. (Radford Horrors 01)

Captured stranger

One of the poncho-wearing searchers in the woods around the old town, he is kicked and sprayed by Andrew's mace and suffers a violent seizure. The team ties him up and takes his shadow poncho and flashlight. When they return along the trail it "ended", and he is gone, so his fate is never learned. (Radford Horror 08) See Shadow poncho and Flashlight weapon.

Cold-open teenager

An unidentified teenager is shown in a dark yard burying three Ziploc bags of cash in the cold open of Radford Horror 06. The episode never names him. Radford Horror 07 identifies him as Dean Lawson: the agents dig the cash up in the yard of the Lawson cabin and find his heroin under a bedroom floorboard. (Radford Horror 06, Radford Horror 07) See also Dean Lawson's heroin and cash.

Derek (Phoebe's ex)

Derek is Phoebe's boyfriend of about a year, who broke up with her amicably a year before the story. He is mentioned only and is a different person from the novelist Derek Augustine, Phoebe's father. (Radford Horror 05)

FBI courier

An unnamed courier delivers the "Radford, Virginia" case folder in the first episode and checks Andrew's ID. He returns in Radford Horror 08 with the crate holding the alien plush and the Marblehead case file, joking about "the alien guys" while Kurt winks that "there are aliens". A courier also figures in the Roulet Estate arc, where Big Bill hands Andrew an envelope from an FBI courier. (Radford Horror 01, Radford Horror 08, Roulet Estate 01) See OJ the stuffed alien.

Radford ER doctor

The emergency room doctor treats the team repeatedly across both arcs. In Radford Horror 08 he is exasperated at having treated them four times in three days; he offers ice chips and real coffee, lectures about fiber, and personally brings the Biz kale salads with chopped boiled egg. Safe Environment Fund security guards

At least three armed guards on ATVs patrol the fenced site, with unarmed medics and escorts arriving later. One tases Webster, and another is shot in the leg by Andrew and carried off. A radio voice from the property owner demands that the team leave, then later orders the guards to stand down. (Radford Horrors 02) See Safe Environment Fund fenced site.

Samson

Samson is a part-time deputy at the highway scene, whom Molly tells the team to look for. He says he has not done a shift in a while and lost his badge, and that it has been quiet "except for the dogs". (Radford Horror 05) See Highway crime scene.
