Bag of Peaches¶
The Bag of Peaches is the sack of peaches found in the middle of the woods near Auraria, the only physical evidence of Willow Greengrass's disappearance, which Sheriff Burke kept in his station's evidence locker.
| Type | Item |
| Aliases | peach evidence; Willow's sack of peaches |
| Holder | Dahlonega Sheriff's Station evidence locker |
| First appearance | Appalachia 01 |
Description¶
An ordinary sack of peaches. Sheriff Burke pointed it out through the bars of the evidence locker and described it as "just sitting out in the middle of" the woods. He said his department had not gotten much off it that was unexpected (Appalachia 01).
Properties¶
Nothing unusual is established about the bag itself. It matters because of what surrounds it: peaches are tied to Auraria and the Covenant, whose members sell peach preserves and a fermented peach drink. The cold open of Appalachia 01 shows a young woman in an ankle-length dress hauling a large sack of peaches through the forest before something drags her off-screen, though the scene does not name her. The episodes do not state outright that the woman is Willow or that the sack in the locker is the one she dropped.
History¶
In Appalachia 01, Sheriff Carter Burke described the case-file subjects: missing woman Willow Greengrass, missing boy Gene Cartwright and witness Edward Nick. He believed Willow had simply left the cult. He then showed the bag in the evidence locker and invited the FBI to bring its own forensics person to examine it, since his small department lacked full facilities. The team said they had a forensics man, Dr. McManley, but that it would be a while before he could help (Appalachia 01).
In Appalachia 02, Willow's sister Primenthol Greengrass told the team that the police had found the sack she was carrying in the middle of the woods, with no sign of her. In Appalachia 04 a Covenant member confirmed that the peaches had been found and said Willow "wouldn't have left those"; Elijah Ray had sent her out to scout peach orchards, and she was on her way back with samples (Appalachia 04). The episodes do not show the bag being tested.
