Minor locations: The Things in Appalachia

Minor locations of The Things in Appalachia, the smaller places visited or mentioned in Georgia. Major sites such as Dahlonega, Auraria and the Smith Hotel have their own pages.

Apollo's Dry Cleaners

Apollo's is a small-town dry cleaner "down on Second" in Dahlonega, with a rack storage area behind double doors whose latch had been broken for months. Derek Edwards's Chewbacca costume was stolen from there eight months before the arc, and the owner paid Derek $100. The owner recognizes the dead drifter as a man who loitered in the area. The cleaner closes for the night while the team is still questioning the owner. See Apollo's Dry Cleaners Owner. (Appalachia 06)

Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest

The national forest, captioned as seventy miles north of Atlanta, is the setting of the arc's first cold open. A young woman in an ankle-length dress carries a sack of peaches through the trees until something hairy and inhuman drags her screaming off camera. Peaches, an Auraria-style dress and a missing woman suggest Willow Greengrass, but the episode never says the woman is her. (Appalachia 01)

Circle Chasers' RV

The Circle Chasers' vehicle is a streamlined silver trailer with a crop circle painted on its side, parked by the road outside Dahlonega when the team first meets the group. By the seventh episode it sits in the Spud Hut lot: blacklit, with guitars, amps and pedals, chewed dog toys, a smell of patchouli and weed, and a wall of firearms. Inside, the teens show the team the blinking tracking device from the bear vomit. See The Circle Chasers. (Appalachia 01, Appalachia 07)

Community Center

The community center is the only other building in Auraria besides the old church. The Covenant's Mother Dahlia Riversand sets the team up there to interview River, and the stony Covenant man storms off from it after Kurt and Huell mention cheeseburgers. See The Covenant. (Appalachia 04)

Dahlonega McDonald's

The Dahlonega McDonald's is a near-empty restaurant where the team eats on their first evening in Dahlonega, at about 8 p.m. The worker Eric fears it will close. See Eric. (Appalachia 01)

Dr. Arthur's Office

Dr. Arthur's clinic is in his own home, with four beaded curtains, an incense haze and a chest freezer for blood draws. Andrew visits for a clotting-disorder blood test and overdue shots, including MMR, and gets a talk on ritual healing. See Dr. Arthur. (Appalachia 01)

Gold Room

The gold room is an underground chamber below the Dahlonega mines with a kitchen table stacked with hundreds of pounds of cast gold bars, about half already gone. The party takes bars under the banner of "civil forfeiture." See Gold Bars and The Dahlonega Gold Mines. (Appalachia 09)

Hotel and Suites

Also called the former Best Western, this is the bedbug-prone hotel where Primenthol Greengrass stays, with bedbug traps at the foot of the bed and one chair. It is distinct from the de-branded ex-Holiday Inn used by the dead drifter, which is the Motel and Suites. (Appalachia 02)

Ladder Shaft

The ladder shaft is the unguarded, tarp-covered exit from the mines to the woods outside the Spud Hut plant. Clive leads the party there, and Andrew and Huell both aggravate their injuries climbing it. Kurt and the Biz realize it explains how the ape-men escaped, since the handlers relied on the ape-men's fear of dark tunnels. (Appalachia 09)

Lake

The lake, unnamed at the table, is where Jan Martense says he sank the car, with the dead NSA man in the passenger seat. Kurt gets the lake's name from Jan. See Jan Martense. (Walkers 01)

Letterman Studio

The New York studio where Late Night with David Letterman tapes. The Biz sits on Letterman's overstuffed couch, staring waxily and sweating through his makeup. (Walkers 01)

McManley's Cottage

Donald McManley's home is a quaint rose-bush cottage with many locks. Inside it is clean but stale, with reptile terrariums, foil-covered windows, takeout bags and the television tuned to Saturday Night Live. McManley answers the door with a shotgun and cigarette. Huell finds ivermectin bottles in the bathroom and leaves with McManley's promise to return to work. (Appalachia 01)

Old Drop Spot

The Biz's old dead drop is a park bench near his old house in Washington, with a loose paving stone concealing a gap. He distrusts it and sends a homeless man to retrieve the taped paper bag, which holds a microphone, a hidden film camera and flash-paper instructions. (Appalachia 01)

Oval Office

The Oval Office is where George H. W. Bush debriefs Andrew on Georgia, after Andrew has waited an hour and a half while the president's secretary types angrily. He drops a clump of slightly bloody Yeti fur on the carpet when finally called in. See George H. W. Bush. (Walkers 01)

Preparation Tent and River

A gas-lit tent near the Covenant's red-clay river is where vacuum salesman Jeremy prepares for his baptism. The arc's fourth cold open follows him down a candlelit path to the river, where four women in white kneel in the mud, and an older man with high cheekbones chants in Latin and plunges him beneath the surface. Mother Dahlia Riversand later invites the team to attend the baptism "this evening," and they leave without stopping it. See Covenant Beliefs. (Appalachia 04)

Woods and Ravines

The woods and ravines outside Dahlonega are Andrew's route when he sleepwalks from the Smith Hotel: an unused trail, broken stalky plants, Russian olive thickets, a ravine where he hits his head and a street in a dark neighborhood where he finally emerges. The next morning, retracing his blood trail, the team follows it to the Death Cave. (Appalachia 03)
