The Sons of Adam Bible is the thick, self-published Bible of the Marblehead church, with added Lemuria and Eden material, which the team is offered by the innkeeper at the end of The Radford Horror.

Description

A clearly self-published Bible, a good deal thicker than a standard one, with extra material and an illustration of Jesus parting the water inside the front cover (Radford Horror 08). At check-in the innkeeper offers three choices: King James, Gideon's, or "the local flavor, which I highly recommend, the Sons of Adam Bible". The team takes the local one, and the innkeeper invites them to attend some of the Sons of Adam church's services (Radford Horror 08).

Properties

In Summer Service 01, Andrew speed-reads it "with a sick intensity". Andre grants +1 forward for extracting information from text and calls it Read a Bad Situation, although Zack thinks Investigate a Mystery fits better. Rita rolls an 11. She asks what sort of creature is involved and what is being concealed. The answers:

  • Most of the normal scripture is present, mixed with added text that sends Jesus to a sunken continent between India and Madagascar. The continent is Lemuria, though the text never names it.
  • The Garden of Eden was taken beneath the waves to protect it, and on Judgment Day everyone returns physically to Eden.
  • The text includes noticeably worse-written diatribes against continental drift ("the firmament does not shift").
  • It has a hysterical, millenarian tone around Revelation, with Jonestown overtones.

(Summer Service 01). Andrew recognizes the Lemuria allusions from his fringe reading. When he finishes, he slaps the covers shut and gives his verdict:

Quote

"I think they might sacrifice people to a sea monster." (Andre, narrating Andrew)

The theology behind it is covered under Second coming and eschaton.

History

The Bible is given out at the Ram and Arms Inn, and in The Summer Service the players call it the motel Bible. It is Andrew's first real window into the church's beliefs, before he hears Amos Shaw preach about angels as terrifying monsters constructed by God to wipe out sin (Summer Service 01).
