Description

Maybelline is hospitable, pouring Andrew a glass of sweet tea and apologizing that she has no cold filtered water, and devout, with strong opinions about who goes to church. When her husband grows agitated at the agents' questions, she pulls him back down to the couch and tells him, "They know what they're doing. They're the FBI. Let's just let them work" (Radford Horror 05).

History

Radford Horror 03

Tracing the barn where Dr. Lori went in a huff, the team looks up the address and finds it belongs to Derek and Maybelline Augustine. Andrew phones Molly Underhill about the family, and she says they have a son of about eleven and an older daughter, attend church, and have never crossed the radar of law enforcement. The Augustines are not seen (Radford Horror 03).

Radford Horror 04

Molly pages the team early in the morning: neighbors heard a scream in the woods, and the Augustines found that their daughter Phoebe was not in her bed. Police and neighbors comb the woods near the Augustine house (Radford Horror 04).

Radford Horror 05

When the team arrives, a part-time deputy is sitting with Derek and Maybelline. They describe Phoebe's ordinary evening, her fight with Laura Nichols and a scream before dawn. Andrew takes Maybelline into the kitchen for sweet tea, leaving Kurt alone with her husband. In the kitchen she tells Andrew that:

  • Amanda had seemed off and out of it the last couple of times she visited.
  • The fate of the Whateley boys hit Phoebe hard, since one of the twins, she is not sure which, had a serious crush on Phoebe when they were younger.
  • Phoebe fought with Amanda a couple of times over Amanda's boyfriend, Dean Lawson.
  • Dean's parents are never home, so he lives alone in that house, drives wildly around town and does not go to church. She would not be surprised if he were up to something "unwholesome": "That boy needs Jesus."

(Radford Horror 05)

Radford Horror 06

Maybelline reports her husband missing; the sheriff relays this along with the missing-person reports for Wilbur Whateley and Dr. Lori. Derek is actually in police custody for torturing Dr. Lori. The team drops its planned interview with her and moves on to finding Dean Lawson (Radford Horror 06). See Dr. Lori.
