Minor items and artifacts: The Walkers in Skin

This page lists the minor objects of The Walkers in Skin; larger items include Betsy, the Plymouth Voyager and the ground-penetrating radar.

Ambushers' shotguns

Guns taken from the roadside ambush in Walkers 08. Kurt orders the weapons confiscated, one shotgun goes to Yusuf, who has said he wants a gun, and another is used to open the lock of the morgue cabinet. See the roadside ambushers. (Walkers 08)

Ape gold

Gold taken from the party's previous investigation, which Andre describes as one large sock full of gold sitting at the D.C. office. In Walkers 06 the Biz raises it as a way to pay the $10,000 fine offered for the Voyager. See Jan's Conspiracy. (Walkers 03, Walkers 06)

Best of Queen tape

Kurt's Best of Queen cassette, which comes through the wreck of the Voyager physically intact but plays only static. Queen is also the "music" that Sheriff McDermish mistakenly reports as a noise complaint in Walkers 03. (Walkers 05)

Bone saw

A saw that Kurt fetches from the morgue cabinet at the Roosevelt police station so that McManley can carry out an autopsy. See the Roosevelt police station. (Walkers 08)

Car phone request

A request for a car phone, filed with the Bureau and still pending in Walkers 03. In Walkers 08 the lack of one hurts: with the rental destroyed, the team has no car phone or satellite phone, and their walkie-talkies cannot reach Salt Lake City. (Walkers 03, Walkers 08)

Cats costumes

School fundraiser costumes that are in the trunk of the loaner squad car Betsy, and which Walt identifies as Cats costumes from Roosevelt's drama department (they "sewed a butthole onto each one"). Huell buries one to calibrate the ground-penetrating radar, and the costumes are still in the car in Walkers 07 and 08. See the Roosevelt high school drama department. (Walkers 04, Walkers 05, Walkers 07, Walkers 08)

Ceramic frog

A ceramic frog that hides the keys to the ranch's guest double-wide in Walkers 02. In the cold open of Walkers 06, a ceramic frog hides the spare key to Doug's trailer. (Walkers 02, Walkers 06)

Cocaine in shoe heel

Kurt's stash, hidden in the heel of a shoe. During the night event it is used as a dental anesthetic for the Biz, and Kurt takes some himself. See the night event. (Walkers 05)

Dead coyote

A coyote shot at the school and kept in Bigelow's emptied porch beer cooler, with ice and bricks on the lid, for McManley to examine. Kurt finds it clean and groomed, with no ticks or wounds apart from the bullet, and jokes that the Mormons are training coyotes. See upright coyotes. (Walkers 07)

Drinking fountain test kits

FBI kits for testing the water from Ballard's fountains. Gardner asks for another kit over the intercom. See Ballard water contamination. (Walkers 02)

FBI case file

Gardner's copy of the earlier local reports on the ranch, covering lost time, the Ranger's shooting and the mutilations. The party is meant to check it back in, and has not read it yet when it is handed over. See livestock mutilations. (Walkers 02)

French Toast Castle

The Good Hills Diner's eight-inch tower of French toast, held together with toothpicks and drowned in syrup. Andrew eats only an embarrassingly small portion and is warned it will ruin his day. The leftovers, taken in a to-go box, are used as bait for the goose, who eats them. See Good Hills Diner and Nancy the goose. (Walkers 04)

Gold fillings

Replacement fillings for the Biz, who loses every filling in the night event. The Roosevelt dentist has only gold on hand, which is non-magnetic. The Biz notes the fit with his nickname and his watch. See the Roosevelt dentist. (Walkers 05)

Goosebumps books

The reading of the teenage intruders in the barn: Welcome to Dead House, Monster Blood and Stay Out of the Basement. They belong to Harrison. (Walkers 04)

Grenade

A grenade produced from Andrew's bag in the gym. It kills horses and townsfolk and wounds both Andrew and his double. The duplicate later describes it to the others as "leverage that went off." See Andrew's bag and Ballard High School. (Walkers 07)

Hooster's package

A flat-rate package of gadgets that the Biz orders from Hooster: a net gun, thermite and a bomb collar, for use against the goose. In Walkers 05 Dante recalls that the order has been placed. (Walkers 04, Walkers 05)

Howard's camera and photographs

Andrew's habit of photographing every scene. In Walkers 03 he records the sky, scorch marks, tire tracks, the substation, fences and the community center site. In Walkers 07 the lens is smashed in the gym. In Walkers 08 he photographs the ambush scene, the dead officers and the prisoners, and in Walkers 09 the real Howard takes dozens of blurry Polaroids of the hazmat crews and the black craft. (Walkers 03, Walkers 07, Walkers 08, Walkers 09)

Howard's Fossil watch

Andrew's 1990s Fossil high-beat mechanical watch, with glow-in-the-dark hands. It keeps working through the dusk event, unlike the battery and digital watches of his companions. See the dusk event. (Walkers 03)

Howard's jacket

Andrew's jacket, stolen and worn by the goose. Walt says that letting the goose take it "shows weak," and Andrew remarks that she is "in a lovely jacket now." See Nancy the goose. (Walkers 04)

Huell's walkie-talkie

A police-model handset, probably a Motorola, whose proprietary battery has gone missing. In Walkers 09 Andre tells Huell that the battery is missing, and the table discusses where a replacement could be found. (Walkers 09)

Joke pen

A pen from the front desk of the Roosevelt police station that Huell gives to Yusuf. (Walkers 08)

Kurt's shovel

A shovel that Kurt brings along for the exhumation; it was previously used on Chester. See the exhumation of Shelly Wilmarth. (Walkers 01)

Kurt's stilts

Kurt's Vietnam-era pair, carrying shrapnel, is lost with the Voyager and later recovered from the wreck. A spare pair turns up in the trunk of Betsy, and the party uses them to open a door and pry at the goose. (Walkers 04, Walkers 05)

Kurt's watch

A small gear-driven battery watch that stops at the dusk event. In Walkers 06 Kurt takes it apart and holds the pieces out to the beam, which sends them rocketing upward. See the beam. (Walkers 03, Walkers 06)

LSD tooth

Kurt's dental capsule, which shifts his cognition when he bites it during the night event. See the night event. (Walkers 05)

Mud room key

The key that the naked intruder used on the ranch's back door. Andrew keeps it, and it suggests that someone holds keys to the estate. See the naked intruder. (Walkers 07)

Plastic FBI badge

The Biz's toy badge, which he uses to apply pressure to the people he questions. (Walkers 05)

Remington Model 870

The sheriff's Vietnam-era shotgun, which Sheriff McDermish gives to Kurt before fleeing Ballard. It is listed among the party's weapons in Walkers 07. (Walkers 06, Walkers 07)

Roosevelt police cruiser

An abandoned cruiser, in better condition than Betsy, parked in the rocks by the ambush site. It is the source of the spike strip, and the party uses it to carry the ambush bodies. Its radio hears nothing on any preset channel. (Walkers 08)

Sheriff's names list

A Post-it note listing absent families and their addresses, which Sheriff McDermish hands to Kurt. See disappearances in Ballard. (Walkers 06)

Spike strip

A spike strip taken from the roadside ambush. It came from the empty Roosevelt police cruiser parked in the rocks, and Kurt orders it confiscated. (Walkers 08)

The Biz's Casio

The Biz's cheap digital watch, whose seven-segment display is left permanently scrambled by the dusk event. See the dusk event. (Walkers 03)
